Connection Question

Connection Question

Hey Guys and Gals! Fellow DJ’s!

I have a question

My current setup looks like this:

But now i want to go for a similar but different approach  Aka my new project!

I want to replicate my setup but with iPads running TouchOSC.

The problem i have run into his how i will go about connecting 4-5 iPads to my computer to run traktor with.

I currently have a Audio 8 behind my setup that is connecting the mixer to traktor if that helps.

Please help me out

I don’t actually have an answer for you but wicked setup! Really liking the double MF3D

 Thanks!

why would you want to only run ipads and loose the tactile feeling?

A camera connection kit, 2 USB to midi leads and 2 midi to midi adapters per iPad
You could connect via wifi but I wouldn’t rely on it tbqh
Another option is to buy a dock add on for each iPad, to add midi connectivity, like the IODock.

You could always just have separate pages on the iPad in TouchOSC or Lemur. I personally run my iPad to my computer over WiFi. Occasionally I’ll use 2 iPads over WiFi, but you need to be sure that the midi channels are different. Latency has never been a problem though.

As someone who has used an iPad in his setup though, I’d advise you to stick with a physical mixer. I have been switching between the iPad and a real mixer for quite some time and I still feel that while the iPad can sometimes do more, it also is better at supplementing a mixer than being a mixer.

I had issues with midi over wifi. If I were going to run multiple iPads I would probably go with the I/O dock.

If cost wasn’t a factor I agree, the IOdock would be good. Has anyone here ever used it though? Hows latency on it?

Thanks for the replies! I will be sure to check out IODock.

And yeah, ive been debating whether to have a physical mixer or not… But ive gone thru 16 different setups in the last 4 years and so far ive loved the External mixer more than anything, so ill most likely stick with my ddm4000

And is it possible to run the ipads straight into my computer thru the Apples Standard USB Cable? Just a question

No

ok so IODock it is!

Good luck with the new setup. I can’t wait to see what you do with all those iPads.
Any idea with what you’re doing with the old gear? I hope you work at least some of it into your setup. Hardware does add a bit of fun to a mix.

Im not one to keep my old equipment :disappointed: But i will think about ways to implement more tactile equipment

A camera connection kit, 2 midi to USB leads and 2 midi to midi adapters per iPad would be a hell of a lot cheaper than IODocks
(and give the same functionality unless u want/need the extra ins and outs of the IODock)

I havent looked at pricing yet, but whats a camera connection kit, like whats included? And where can i buy one?

What about something like the Midi Mobilizer, or the iRig?

It’s a USB port for the iPad

Can be had for very much cheapness on Ebay or for much money from Apple for their version
Mine has a few other extras added on that the iPad coulda, shoulda, woulda had like a mini USB port, VGA out and some mem card readers. The newer ones have HDMI out now I believe.

ohhhhhhhh so basically i get 2 of those Camera Connections which converts the 30pin Standard Ipad usb to regular USB, then i get 2 usb cables that go from the Camera Connection kit to my Macbook?

And the sound would come thru the mixer which is hooked up to my Audio 8 correct?

Since all the ipads do are control traktor

Don’t think the iRig is what you want.
The Midi Mobilizer adds midi ports to the iPad but it’s still expensive imo and you still need to get that midi signal into the computer.
