How Do They Get Their Music Before Everyone Else
Hey DJTT Forum; long time no post
This may seem like a very naive question but I was just wondering how some DJ’s get the music of others before the official release date. I know people will DM or direct message each other to get unreleased tracks but I’m referring to way less well known DJ’s who have obtained music before the release.
Do some record pool’s get releases prior to beatport or itunes?

yup. many record pools get promo stuff.
X-Mix and Promo Only are 2 companies I use.
there is a special audio fairy that delivers music everyday… lol
there are DJ pools you can be a part of also, most top DJ’s get 1000’s of tracks in their emails daily
I dont mean to hijak but im sure the OP would want to know as well. Do you feel like this service is really worth it? Ro you receive a decent amount of quality music for the $70/month.
Most of the DJs I know use Usenet or Torrents tbh; plenty of “unreleased” 0-day stuff easily available. Also it depends on what clubs you’re playing in, we get a lot of bootleg mashups and remixes here.
I mashup my own tracks 
then release it on the web myself for free…great way to start getting noticed

op get yourself & residency and you’ll hardly spend anything on music and get promo’s months before they are released
but thats what Im wondering; suddenly you just start to receive emails with free music cause you have a residency? like this again probably seems really naive, and I apologize but its almost like theres a secret network of music sharing.

Its not a secret network. Its a way of promoting artists music to the people that will actually give it airplay/club play.
If you are a bedroom DJ what’s the point of a promo company bothering to service a track to you if no-one will hear it and subsequently buy it.
You dont need to be a member of a paying DJ Pool. As Nicky says, get a gig, tell a promo company you play to people and they will send you music.
Thats how it works.
Oh and its not sharing. Its promoting. Every free promo sent from a promo company remains the property of the company. You are not free to share it and most today are digitally watermarked with your details. I know this doesnt stop DJ’s sharing in general but it certainly stops me. I wont share my promos.
Its harder for new DJ’s with digital releases in some respects. I used to be able to go to my local indie record shop and get promos off the guys there. They werent supposed to sell them but they did, they all do. I didnt have gigs but I got promos. Who you know, not what you know I guess.
On the other hand digital means that tracks very often dont have a 6 week lead time before promo and release.
Many bedrooms DJs get tracks a few days after the bigger DJs.
What it boils down to is a dog chasing its tail. Dont sweat it. Just get the tracks when you can. Get gigs. Get a higher profile but dont worry about it.

I mean even lesser known djs can know bigger named djs and get tunes early aswell. Thats what I have been doing

I really don’t know why ppl get so bent up about playing a track one or two days/weeks before another dj…there is alot of music in the world…if you need something just released to make your set work then you are doing something wrong
I’ve heard dj’s playing radio rips in clubs before…is it really worth poor audio quality just to be the first one to play a new song in your area?
I would much rather hear a new mix with a fairly new song then the newest thing out.
