I have $200 and Traktor Pro. What do I buy?
At a measly $10 a week, I have saved up $200. I have Traktor Pro (Christmas), and a MicroKorg. What do I buy?
P.S. I have a Windows computer.

I’d probably look at getting Native Instrument Kontrol X1 or an oxygen 8 / eans mapping, you would then need a mixer aswel, a midi mixer (m-audio x-session) would probably work out cheaper then getting an analog mixer as you wouldn’t have to pay out for a larger interface.
You could also look into behringer bcd…
I haven’t used the above, as I have an arcaded vci & lpk25… though the oxygen 8/kontrol x1 still tempts me! ![]()
hmmm… you mention you have a microkorg, are you interested in getting in to producing?
Edit
was going to recommend the oxygen 8 if he felt like he was.
do you have a soundcard yet? if not get an audio2dj to get started unless you also need inputs in which cause the choice gets harder.
anyways please first tell us what direction you want to go into and more importantly why your current setup isnt satisfying you.
aside from this i can totally recommend the novation launchpad (though that will eat your entire 200 right there) or an akai lpd8 to just get started.
If I get an audio 2 dj, I won’t be able to really buy anything else. It seems like it is like buying 3 years of xbox live without an xbox. All I have is a keyboard and mouse. I have a bunch of cables that I use with my guitar and microkorg, but other than that, I don’t really have anything, so a usb interface would make things way easier. I have been making some electronic music with my MicroKorg, but I want to get into remixing/controllerism as quickly as possible.
save up a little more and get the spin?
That is why I put in the P.S. that I have a windows computer.
youtube: “midi mapping traktor” &
yes check out the thread on the gear section, there’s a couple guys working on the tsi for the spin and you use asio4all for the drivers.
i can’t think of anything for the price that compares (well maybe the eks xp-10’s at $99 but then you need a mixer)
Desktop or laptop - what type of soundcard (there is a chance you have a multi-channel soundcard and won’t need to buy another one to start off with).
My sound card isnt anything special. It came with the computer in a bundle at a wal mart. I want to do some cue juggling, and the spin doesnt seem to have any function to do that, with the buttons being all lame. I have been looking at pad controllers to hold me over until my birthday in march, if only to mess around with. The MPD 24 seems really nice, and it has some good looking knobs and faders, for 2 deck volume and effects and the such.
that’s a pretty good option if you’re looking for cue juggling or if you could see yourself doing it on a keyboard, those options mentioned.
best of luck
It doesn’t have to be special as such, however if it can output 2 stereo pairs of channels then you will be able to cue tracks up in your headphones seperate from the master output.
youtube: “adding modifiers in traktor” & assign a shift key and make the loop buttons alternatively cues to
the buttons are not suited for cue point juggling, is what I am saying.
As you don’t have an interface, that’s going to be priority.
Get on ebay and hunt down a cheap interface.
And then as I mentioned earlier, I’d look at getting an oxygen 8 (can pick these up pretty cheap).
You could also look at modifying a usb game pad controller.
I’d also think about what functions you want from you’re controller:
Are you going to sync tracks / or manually beat match etc.
I’d look into akai’s mini usb range aswel…
the lpd8 is nice, as iks the key version. The new APC 20 is coming out, and it looks sick, if you dont need lots of knobs, and even though its more for ableton, it can be mapped.
I have usb headphones for some reason. Is there anyway I could route what I am cueing to those, and have the deck that is playing go through my speakers?
try it will asio4all. u setup both soundcards in that program and then select that in traktor
alrighty, here is the plan. I have had ableton for a long, long, long time now, and I could probably use that and an MPD24 to do some remixing, which I am interested in. Afterwards, I have around 5 weeks until my birthday. I should have around $80-$90 by then, and I can buy an x-session pro. I will ask for either an audio2dj or a numark i/o, and an oxygen 8 v2 with some nice-ish headphones. Go go 17th birthday.
