I know its early, but what would you like to see in Traktor Pro 3

It’s obviously a ways off but everyone knows that these companies have their long term plans so Traktor 3 is definitely on the horizon. What do you see happening with traktor 3?

I feel like 2 was a solid update if you ignore the bugs. Loved the darker layout, sample decks, waveforms, and soon the remix decks. These are all awesome improvements to Traktor.

So would you want more features? Or something like OS X Snow Leopard where the purpose is to streamline everything and make the software more efficient. I really don’t know what features could be added without it getting cluttered.

I know for a while they’ve mentioned that theyve been working on Maschine and Traktor integration but I feel like the remix decks fills that void since people can make loops in Maschine and drag and drop them into the remix decks without needing the programs to be synced. Plus Maschine and Traktor running at the same time sounds like Ableton and Serato. Seems like a good idea but more trouble then it’s worth and inefficient when you compare it to the remix decks.

Thoughts?

Real itunes integration.

Flexible beat grids.

A good key detection algorithm built in so I don’t have to rely on MixedIn Key.

Also, configurable parameters for the built-in filters and EQs…not just presets like NUO, P600, Xone, and Classic. E.g., I would like to be able to change the resonance of the filters etc.

hmmm…need to think a bit more on that…

Yes on the iTunes integration, super lame. And please no one say parallel waveforms haha, it’s pretty clear that the way the GUI is laid out currently it would involve a huge revamp to make this happen. And phase meters solve this for beat matching anyways.

If they really wanted to put the bridge concept in the software they would add in the native mix recorder again t track all the midi movements. But I think they’ve made that clear that it won’t be happening.

Maschine integration

I think a lot of people will want video and VST support…I don’t think these are important.

Drag and drop customized layouts and one-click midi learn would be cool, but this just makes me excited to see what The One is capable of.

Video intergation, improved hid suport and last but sure not least intergation with ableton!

i know i ask for too much

Video capabilities is a MUST for Traktor 3, really.

This is interesting. Go on!

Midi Mapping made easier I’d go even further than “one click mapping”… with every input should have an assignable output in a contextual right click… e.g.

MIDI Stuff

  • I right click a knob to map - Twist a knob/button to assign
  • Contextual Menu pop-up with output assign pre-populated with the CC value and value selection for output AND drop down menu to manually assign the output.
  • A Tickbox for Send State in the contextual menu.
  • Multiple midi knob/button assignment by holding ctrl/cmd + right clicking.
  • Modifiers should automatically be recognized like keystrokes so if I assign while pressing xy or z button it gets written to the map as well.

Other Stuff

  • EQ curves would be very nice.
  • Re-introduce native mix recorder - it was soooooo much much handier than the current recorder.
  • External Routing via an onscreen button for outputting channels to a mixer without needing to go into prefs.
  • Dual screening or perhaps an Ipad playlisting app - what I mean by this is the ability to split your playlist screen onto an external iPad for track selection/coverflow rather than needing to go to browser mode.
  • Option of a 4 channel across mixer rather than the stacked 2x2
  • Itunes Coverflow
  • Podcasting built in.

All I can think of right now

I’m on SSL right now, but these are the things that would make me consider jumping back.

  • Level meters that actually mean something
  • full, flawless iTunes integration.
  • something like the iTunes Cover Art browser or the way SSL does it, though, you know, working.
  • Tempo detection that’s actually right almost all of the time. SSL’s transient/tempo detection is enough better that Traktor’s is kind of a joke.
  • Level meters that actually mean something
  • Flexible grids/warping.
  • Better Maschine integration…specifically
  • Ability to browse/choose Maschine projects from Traktor.
  • Tempo sync to the master deck or time code.
  • Level meters that actually mean something
  • More tunable auto-gain so it doesn’t screw up its own effect response.
  • Level meters that actually mean something
  • Since Traktor Scratch needs dedicated hardware anyway, why not put some DSP on it to help out with effects?
  • Correspondingly better-sounding effects.
  • Level meters that actually mean something

rearrangeable GUI and to set resolution different…so people on 13" macbook and use the resolution of someone who was using a 17" macbook

*Internal post fader fx
*Tighter midi clock sync
*Resizable mapping window and a general workflow improvement in it (why should we need to buy a 3rd party program for this)
*More than 2 modifier conditions per control, being able to set a range of it’s values (if XY then Z) and assign and/or variables for them.

  • Cut to -inf EQ mode.
  • Being able to change the resonance of the internal mixer filter like you can with the FX module version

Good key detection, Better itunes integration, and a better way to keep track of your history. i hate when i forget to write down a practice set and there isn’t a way for me to go back and check what works and what didn’t.

+1

My biggest issue with Traktor.

Ya the level meters in Traktor are brutal. They should also have adjustable curves for the line faders. The S4 has a really sharp curve at the top.

Better meters, customizable layouts that you can drag around, ableton style midi mapping, and a filter to control what frequency the effects affect.
