Which feature needs to be added to (your) DJ software

Hey guys,
i am working on a VJ program at the moment,
and all the time i am complaining about traktor because it is not possible,
to get any data from traktor.
There are so many crazy ideas in my head right now, ahh, and i just can’t do it.

My feature request to NI is, make it possible to develop plug-ins for traktor which could get information from traktor and execute commands.

Syncing my VJ Application via MIDI-Clock with Traktor is nice, and works super well. But, sadly, thats is all i can get.
Imagine i could read out which tracks are on the decks, and add some Special Cue Points, that tell when they are being hit by the playhead.

Then i could map those points in my application, and let the software show a specific image/video for that cue point.

Plug-ins would open up millions of possibilities.

Just like VSTs would do …

Maybe next time

What are you craving for?

an event automation edit/draw feature similar to DAW softwares.

a function to export each channel of a recording to seperate audio files.

1 big fat helping of multi screen action puleeze.

An Intelligent MIDI mapping editor for Traktor.

For me, it’s mostly the little things about TPro that niggle me - things that Traktor 3 had that TPro does not:

  • What happened to the browser back button?
  • Where’s the round tempo button?
  • Why can I no longer easily switch between snap and vinyl mouse modes?
  • Why is there no instant reverse feature?
  • Why can I no longer change the colours of the waveform? The current colours don’t have anywhere near enough contrast.
  • NI really need to re-implement an improved NMX recorder, with ability to edit individual events post recording.

But I would say that the biggest feature I’d like to see in TPro is a dedicated sampler/loop player. I’d gladly sacrifice a deck if it meant I can have a bank of 6 or so 1 shots and loops loaded and ready to go, with the ability to save banks to the track collection for easy recall. If that were to happen I could finally leave my KP3 at home when I go to gigs

Fus

traktor + vst plugins

Yeah, how the hell is it that an (at least chronologically) mature piece of audio software doesn’t support the de facto standard for plugins?

m.

In no particular order…

option to display three decks in a 3x1 format
VST plugins
option to change waveform colour
headphone eq
built in key detection

I don’t think Traktor is ever going to be, or be able to accept, VSTs. I think it’s a very similar situation to Reason. I’d be happy with a pretty solid OSC/MIDI sync option, or something else, maybe Rewire. But VST support, I think, will add too much complication to the mix and cause a lot more problems.

Built in key detection would be awesome, though.

i just want them to fix a couple of fucking bugs, then i’ll pay for pro.
P.S. i’m on the verge of borrowing a mates mac and setting up my shit just to see if the bugs i hate are windows specific, if they are, i buy a mac. crazy eh!

bugs are:
laying down a beatgrid while audio is still caching = broken deck
drag and drop from explorer = broken

Wuz, I think those might be issues with your system, cause I can do both of those on Windows Vista 64 and nothing breaks

total modular interface (you choose what you want to appear on screen)
modular routing for fx
devkit for fx

  • to all this

and full, and I mean FULL, ID3v2.4 tagging capability

This is already available if it were just implimented from ID3v2 standards. All MP3’s could be bought with perfect beatgrids for any DJ or DAW program, event cues like chorus, intro’s, and explicit language markers, and a whole slew of other information all embeded into the file itself. It’s available, just not used.

Modularity is key !!!

Give users an easy to use powerful modular interface and they will create all the function of your program for you

YES - we must have this. I realized how much I miss this when it’s time to beatgrid tracks.

YES - this combined with bringing back the ability to see the first five or so characters of your cue point labels.

FWIW, I asked NI about officially supporting some sort of virtual audio cable so that users can easily sample from Traktor into Maschine on the same machine. The response from NI was:

(Link)

So something is on the horizon in regards to sampling and Traktor; I can’t imagine that it would just be a Maschine ↔ Traktor specific function (at least I hope not).

And I will add:

  • Bring the metronome sound from Maschine over to Traktor. Much nicer and easier to hear. Throw in the ability to control the volume of the metronome too.

Personal thing for me would be shoutcast integration for live streaming from Traktor - I do a show a week, and currently use a full on Heath Robinson mess of custom cables / winamp & random plugins …

+1

I will gladly pay the extra 20 quid or so for the codec license if it means not having to bugger around to broadcast in mp3.

I so agree… let’s say we have like traktor with an unlimited numbers of decks… like in any DAW when you can add an audio channel. Then we could also any fx as we like on any decks… that would be great!

Detachable Browser list

many of the functions the thousands of vst out there are currently covered by a different software packages developed by NI. Your traktor pro effects, for example, exist in many other NI programs in more or less the same form. It’s understandable they want top down control of what extras you use in traktor.
