Starting Set Up Beginner DJ

Starting Set Up Beginner DJ

I have some beginner skill with a laptop and VDJ7. I’m looking into getting my first Controller and gear. The budget I set to get my controller is $500.

Here is what I’m looking at

Hercules Dj 4set for $250
Midi Fighter no case no top $155
Total $ 405 and the (95 change to handle all shipping I’m using next day)

I’m looking to use this setup at small venues as well

Any other ideas for beginner setups for a $500 budget

Thanks

Get yourself two Midifighter classic’s and a soundcard and Traktor pro/2

Thanks but can you tell which sound card because two midi fighters will run me about 300 bucks and a audio2 cost 100 bucks and the audio6 cost 250.

Traktor pro 2 will run me into another 250-300

I know traktor is one of the best dj software out there so I planned to get that next month along with a audio6

But you have me thinking the two midi fighter set up sounds boss

Novation Twitch! $499 and comes with free ITCH software updates for life, built in soundcard etc. ITCH 2.0 looks awesome, and the all in one system will be nice and easy to learn on. You can always get Traktor and use it with that further down the line if you wish.

i would skip the MF as a beginner.
A2DJ (100), tp2 (200) and a cheap controller. Maybe something like that:

yep, i have to say… very good solution

Great suggestions what about the mixtrack pro I saw this package for 545 with amp and 10 gemini speakers. It looked tempting

I was kinda sold on the hercules dj4set seeing as it has a built in interface and I see the mixtrack pro has that as well and 4 deck mixing capablities has anyone had any experience with hercules products or the mixtrack pro

I don’t want to rush out and get a interface just yet I like the A2Dj but I would want the A6Dj as I feel the A2Dj is a bit limited.

Whatever I do I will be getting the midi fighter classic or midi fighter pro I like the fact that they can be modded.

^ This. Your better off getting something that you can rely on rather than getting the hercules, and the midi fighter you’d still need a mixer.

I’d honestly go for the twitch.

Twitch ftmfw.

twitch +1

Itch is easier interface to get into.

Mixtrack Pro. IMO the twitch is just new and shiny and so everybody wants it.

The mixtrack is huge, made of plastic and uninspired.

Seriously who the fuck decided you should put a master fader between the channel faders?

This. It’s a good beginner controller but it has average build quality, an uninspired layout and no bundled software.

The twitch is new and shiny and awesome. As someone who has had my hands on it, I recommend it.

Ok the twitch yes it new and that is what scares me especially the touch strip and those buttons don’t look like they can take a betting and I don’t know how get the tech support will be.

Oh yeah its not released yet and I want my gear with in the next two weeks and I doubt its going to be released by then.

Thanks guys for your help but I need something to practice on and develop a skill level before I upgrade bear that in mind.

Thanks I value your opinions and help

I don’t think you should worry about build quality or support woes with Novation, they are very well respected.

i have to vote for the twitch if you can wait. pretty sure it will serve you a long time and is a bargain price for what you get.

if you really must have jog wheels then look elsewhere. if you like the format of the twitch i’d say thats your best bet atm.

It all depends on what you want to do. “Classic” mixing, or balls-to-the-wall, button mashing controllerism? The twitch (and ITCH) seems to be more geared towarsd controllerism, whereas for example the Mixtrack is a more “normal” setup, geared towards classic mixing.

Now, if you’re a beginner, I’d say, start out with “normal” mixing, and once again, for the beginner bedroom DJ, the Mixtrack Pro is good value for money. The Twitch seems like an awesome piece of hardware, but I’m not sure if a beginner can justify the price.

Dude there’s no reason you can’t do normal mixing with the twitch at all.

I find it hard to justify spending money on something like the mixtrack when it’s just going to be replaced shortly after.
