…to pick a DJ name that someone out there already has but isnt like a big deal? I am trying to pick a good name, so when i think of something good, i usually google the shit out of it first to see if there is someone more important than myself is using it already.
i wouldn´t mind. i for example live in germany and my dj name is ed paris and as far as ai know, there is another one with this name overseas. no big problem.
Personally i could not stand knowing someone had my name u want your name/brand/logo to be unique not something someone would google and find a different guy! IMO yes its a big deal. No one is going to find another Dwonka27 newhere But if i had the name DJ Bassline im sure 15 other djs would pop up in google search at minimum. Be creative and take time and your dj name will come i promise you.
I DJ and produce under the name of Paddy, you can imagine the amount of people using it (but I have the Beatport name ). Only reason I kept it is because it’s the name i’ve been called by my mates since school days and it rings right to me.
I was thinking of maybe just using the nickname i have had pretty much forever, DJ Ringo…for some reason though, when i imagine it on a poster or flyer, it just looks weird to me. The name i was thinking of, which sparked this topic, was DJ Eclipse…what do you think?
At most of the gigs i DJ, its a lot of top 40/hip hop. I really prefer EDM/dubstep/dance, however most of the places i play want the mainstream top 40 stuff.
What everyone else said plus the great thing is you can create as many names for yourself whenever you want.
I ran into trouble going by the name of Kid Alex in 2000. Two other guys going by the same name became really famous two years later (one of them is Boys Noize today). Although I wouldn’t have had trouble going with that name 6 years later I booked one of the Boys Noize Records artists. If I had still used that name there would’ve probably been great trouble at or before that party. So when one of the other guys becomes well known you should look for something else.
Wouldn’t be major issue. There are only so many words (granted, billions upon billions of combinations) - there are bound to be a few clashes down the line.
Search for ‘Indigo’ in the realms of music. Loads of them.
