Jog wheel effects

Jog wheel effects

With regards to the S2 behind the scenes vid on the main blog…

Anyone know if the effects mapping is available for the S4? I really want my jogs to be as cool as that!!!

There is no mapping available yet for the S2 or the S4. NI has said that most of the same mapping customizations will be available for the S4 when the new update comes out, but there will still be some things not the same. All we can do is wait and see unless someone with inside knowledge speaks up.

Rainer has dropped a bit of critical info here: http://www.traktorbible.com/video/neutralize-and-remap_tweaking-kontrol-s4.aspx

He mentions that the S2 default mapping is closed like the S4 is today, so that means pretty much that those hoping to edit any of these controllers maps won’t be getting it in the next update.

My guess is that the customization improvements might be allowing buttons to be set on knobs NHL mappings, like midi does. This kind of limitations in the current version is pretty annoying since you have to choose between resolution and advanced customization via MIDI (but makes sense for people who have no clue about mapping or just want to map simpler stuff). Give us an advanced mode with resizable window already!

But Ean says the mapping for the S2 is available on this website?

Should be here once it’s up Mappings

Maybe he was just making the video future proof. It wouldn’t make much sense to release a map for a controller that isn’t even out yet.

I understand it is just a guess but I hope that will be implemented as it will mean true potential superknobs on the S4 (ie knob being able to change an effect unit, choose and engage effects which is currently not possible). That would be good news.

Gimme gimme gimme!!!

damn i hope it comes out for the s4 as well. I love what is going on with the jogs in that vid!! fingers crossed!!

Yul. you will have some porting work to do then :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m 80% sure what Ean does can be achieved today with the S4 and the current status of NHL since the button magic is all happening when the platter is pressed. Just use FX mode and tweak the acceleration for the different parameters like he does.

Talking about the S4, I’m 95% sure you cant’ come currently with a system that would be 1/ consistent (whatever the decks layout) and 2/ that would work 100% of the time . Not feasible.
because 1/ there’s no consistency on the load button that engages the fx mode for the jogwheel, depending on the type of deck you’re using (that’s just dumb NI).
2/ there are too many layers and events that can affect the jogwheel and you cant’ reproduce those with a user mapping. Not possible with the controller manager.

Of course I’m talking here of a user mapping working in conjunction with the native one.
On the other hand it’s quite easy to implement with a full user mapping just to do that but that would be ‘meh’ to loose all the functions and led feedback from the embedded mapping.

I’m going to repost it here just in case some didn’t see it, sorry for the others:

So I worked upon an half solution but that can work only for a defined layout and that prevents you to use the copy mode, which is a pain in the a..

Yeah gonna give that a go when I get my s4 back from NI!!

pretty sure you can do this in midi mode…im kinda close…but not really…but i am sure it can be done…i mean i see beatmasher and peakfilter and reverb…i can get all of that going on…but when it goes back and the sample cuts out to nothing…it is like it is maped to the volume or totally cuts the deck off or somthing…not just the beat masher…also all i can get is a toggle on and off with all of the fx on the platter top…seems like it reacts more to touch for eans set up…need to dig deeper…

Of course it can be done in midi mode, it can even be done in hid mode with a user mapping. That’s not a mystery.

What was the thing about syncing one-shots? Anyone have any idea how that’s done?

As it stands currently, it is not possible to do what Ean does on the S2 or S4 ( bearing in mind that the S2 isn’t GA yet) ?

If true, that’s fairly lame. I would think that would be a fairly major selling point for both units, especially so for the S4 since it is the bigger brother of the units.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding though.

It has been announced already that the any new customization options introduced with the S2, will be available for the S4.

Like I said earlier, I’m pretty sure it can be replicated with the current version.
Like I said earlier, I’m pretty sure it can be replicated with the current version./QUOTE]

me too… i am pretty close in midi mode

Once again, there’s no issue to do that in midi mode.
Not a big deal.
Like I said earlier, I’m pretty sure it can be replicated with the current version.
If you mean, in conjunction with the embedded mapping? If that’s the case, no way, bring any system you you can think off, I’ll disrupt it in two movements.
What was the thing about syncing one-shots? Anyone have any idea how that’s done?
It’s a future option.

Nah I meant regularly mapping.

PS: love your sigs

I kinda already made first version of the configuration myself, needs bit tweaking tho.

One thing I’m particularly interested is if it’s possible to change an effect on let’s say slot 1 of fx unit 1 when left jog wheel has been rotated (while pushed) x amount clockwise for example start with beatmasher on slot 1 then shortly after rotating change it to beatslicer+activate it and so forth, can put it to say, some assignable button separately tho.

but I say what Ean is showing on the vid, is doable on S4 too

Mapped these jogwheel fx to my S4 last night in HID mode (not midi mode) loads of fun !!!

In S4 preferences select jogwheels to control fx when load button is pressed.

Next created a new user mapping and mapped a few commands to the jogwheel:-

Press jogwheel to turn on all three fx in group mode.

The bit that got me stumped for a while was trying to map fx amounts when turning jogwheel. Control manager didn’t want to learn the jogwheel when rotating. After a while i found that in one of the pull down menus in the manager you could select “direct speed” under one of the jogwheel sub menus.

Then as explained in the vid using various relative settings you can create some cool effects.

Pressing the load button takes you back to scratch control on the jogwheels…

Have fun…
