Kid Cudi stole Day ‘n’ Nite melody?
I just found a youtube vid, if you listen to the melody on the piano at 0:43 it’s almost exactly the same as the basic melody of Day ‘n’ Nite. Do you guys agree? Please listen to it…

And?
Basically every melody that appeals to the general public has been done/copied multiple times in some form or another so this really isn’t a big deal.
Day N Night was released dec 07…according to wiki the smoosh track was released in 2008. Not sure how accurate wiki is
Day n Nite was recorded in 2007.
Smoosh released She’s Right in 2006 on the Free to Stay Album.
check the Amazon link for the audio clip (track 10)! - yup Dot the Genius sampled it - that’s why it’s called hip-hop.

I was gonna say…its hip hop…chances are it sampled or stolen.
if i remember correctly, day n nite wasnt originally professionally made, it was part of a home made mix tape, so you cant blame the guy too much
i could be completely wrong though
you are correct.
this goes on quite a lot with all music, but especially so with hiphop and dance music - after all, both evolved heavily out of sampling as one of the fundamental building blocks to their sound.
I wish the title of this thread didn’t make it seem like a bad thing. People use music to make music, there’s nothing wrong with that. Not to me anyway.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?
just kidding, i totally agree. Make something new with parts of something old.
If it sounded good before, you’re using it as a basis formula not stealing it
Cool find. But doesn’t prove too much. It’s hip-hop–genre is built on sampling.
right, i also want to mention that the OP did make a good find, but he could have presented it differently. alls good though ![]()
Everyone “borrows/steals from everyone”. honestly I love when I hear a melody or hook reused as long as it’s reused in a different way. Even more so with EDM I find all these great tracks that take very simple elements from some of my favorite tracks and reuse them to a whole new effect.
Day n Night was released in '07?
Fuck im old
yup. released in 07
i started listening to the remix in 08 and a bunch of people said it sucked
1 summer later the same people were obsessed with it. same thing happening with some mau5 tracks. im seeing hipsters and other unexpected people loving his music, that seems not right somehow…
“Good artists borrow. Great artists steal.” - Picasso, Stravinsky, Steve Jobs, and oh so many more…
But good find. Could be unrelated, though; I have made melodies before only to find a verrry similar melody already exists. It’s inevitable.
