I am ready to take the plunge and buy an apple computer to work with for my audio production. I produce electro dubstep at home which i play out at gigs. I use an Acer Extensa 5635z at the moment for all my work.
I will be using Ableton Live to produce, alongside other VST plugins which are memory intensive, but I will also need Final Cut Pro, but im not sure that a Macbook Pro will be able to handle the rendering.
So, i dont know whether to buy an iMac to work at home to produce, with the higher power and specs of a desktop this would be best for production, or get a Macbook Pro, with lesser specs but better portability so production and gigs can be done on the same machine.
Also, if you have had experience with either software on the iMac or Macbook, i would be interested to know.
I’m running a 09 MBP to DJ, produce and process live audio on stage with no major issues and negligible latency. Personally I think I can squeeze another year of two out of this machine without feeling limited by it.
I’d say anything with a Core 2 Duo and above would be enough. If you get a more powerful machine you would shorten video render times tho.
If you’re happy with the laptop you use for DJing, I’d just go with the iMac or even the Mac Pro if you got that kinda cash. I have a MBP that i use for production and a MB for DJing, and it’s really nice to have dedicated machines
