Turn off the OS sound effects in preferences.
I don’t see the need for partitioning for music, if you really want, get an external 2.5" passport drive, they are cheap as chips these days. I only have an 80gb in my macbook with a 160gb passport and I have gigged with my macbook harddrive with less than 500mb left…haha. Worked fine. Personal preference really these days, unless your djing with .aiff files, even then. Turn off things like Universal Access off, Bluetooth and Airport when you don’t need them. Setting the screen saver to off before playing helps. Check Accounts for the login items every now and then to see nothing has crept in there that you don’t want start at boot. Also, setting Spotlight to only index the drives you want to search through is also helpful. No point searching a 500Gb external drive for an mp3 when you know its on the local drive. 80-100gb should be fine for a OS partition? Someone else here can probably give you some better details.
I don’t know about transferring settings, the .tki and .tks sould work?
As far as memory caches etc, I usually tend to set things to the medium to high settings and go from there. You should be able to do anything with the mabook, I know I have. Apart from serious games and intense 3d modeling.
Sorry about the rant, I just couldn’t help myself.
Also make sure to repair your permissions every week. Do a spotlight of disk utlitiy and repair them.
One things I would recommend is use spaces effectively. Try assigning them for specific applications. It will help you take advantage of the small display. For example, I have one space assigned to activity monitor, so when im playing gigs I know the status of my computer.
OK, I didn’t got to bed until 4am (nothing new) but traktor runs like a champ, the audio 8 sounds awesome, I had to analyze all my tracks for beatgrids but that was no big deal.
I have one problem with my mac…where is the right click on the trackpad? wtf
ill do a google search today at work…
LOL. You’re funny. I love asking mac users this question. Their answer, why use one hand when you can use two? At which point, I say, touché.
But seriously, Apple just just damn stubborn. They’ve even made external two or more button mouses work with OSX. Why don’t they add it to their hardware yet?!!!?!?! Blah.
Click with the trackpad while holding down the function key should do the trick. And who on earth would buy an external mouse or keyboard from Apple anyways, they are ugly. I connected my mini mouse to it, Yasta!
Try this…Go to System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad. There is a option there that, when enabled, allows you to place two fingers on the trackpad and click the button for right/secondary click actions.
MBP are nice, but way to big for me, I almost gave in to a 15", but I wanted something to match my VCI-100 SE (Death Star) you should see the looks I get when I walking into a club with my SE in a flight case, djs are like wtf is guy have in that flight case.
