Making A DJ Intro ?

Making A DJ Intro ?

I really want to make a good intro like a mash up a couple of beats with scratching and stuff and saying dj habit so I want to find some hip hop acapellas saying “habit” it would go onto every mix but I dont really know where to start of how I could do it ? i use traktor. I looked on youtube couldnt find anything
how would I go about doing this ??

You can make it in Ableton or any other DAW

You can pay someone to make one for you as well

I did my first DJ intro by using Audacity hooked up my mic layed down a track of explosions lasers etc and mixed it all together. I slowed my voice down lowered the lasers and explosions and it came out half decent. I also got a intro made by basslinevo@gmail.com He does a great job and his turnaround time is quick.

Personally I like simple intros, like 3LAU’s if you listen to 3LAU Haus at all, He just uses a sexy woman’s voice that is reverbed/delayed. This is what I do too.

I recommend him as well, he’s done work for me a few times.

Thanks but i would rather do it myself if im honest

does anyone have any links for sound effect i could use or just general explosion sounds. still not sure how to get it started has any made a hip hop sort of intro ?

Sample the virtual dj airhorn

heres some advice
dont limit yourself. STop looking for JUST HIP HOP sources for the words you need
There are websites out there with WAV samples of tv shows and movies

youll have all the luck you need finding any word you can think of as long as you are willing to clip the word from the audio

Kottonmouth Kings- Bad Habits

any ideas of how to get my own samples to make it easy ? tv shows films what ever any one any good examples

Just google free explosions samples or whatever and use what you find.

Going to give away one of my production secrets here: http://www.subzin.com/

Check that site out. It’s basically a database of film scripts so you can type in the word you’re looking for and it will list all the film lines that have that in and a time code so you can easily find them. Then it’s just a case of finding it on the tubes or downloading a copycough tracking down a copy of the film for you to rip it from with some generic audio ripper.

The beauty of vocal samples is that they don’t need to be high quality.

Now that the vocal sample digging part is out of the way, lets get on to the real meat and potatoes of this debacle:

Intros with explosions and air horns/sirens full of name drops are pure

Which is fine if you’re going for that cliche “WESTWOOOOOOOODD” type vibe, but if you’re playing in a club populated with mostly 18-25 year old people that didn’t come to listen to their Dad’s favourite hip hop records, then it’s going to start your set off on the wrong foot immediately.

I would recommend making intros for all occasions, make a simple impact sound with a simple “DJ Habit”. (None of that ‘In the mix’ bull shit, you’re obviously in the mix because you’re in a booth/stage/podium dropping your name over tracks.) You can use this with most types of music.

Also consider using cheesy adverts from the 50s/60s to get funny quotes which you can scratch up with your name (Easy enough to fake in a DAW) which are pretty good to baby scratch in live.

The whole notion of a DJ intro is pure cheddar in itself. Who gives a flying flump, ya know? If you really have to make an entrance, play a track that’s completely off the wall, like wheels on the bus or a bit of Tchaikovsky that switches up into some pounding electro/dirty southern hip hop an segues into your set.

Not sure what type of music you spin but this Oldskool UKG track might help ya out?

ATFC Presents OnePhatDeeva ‎– Bad Habit (Stanton Warriors Vox)

I dont know if this will help, but iam sure you can type any word into Microsoft Word, right click it, and select speech…i think.
It will then say it in that English Gentlemans voice…I think pendulum did once…Cant remember what tune though…Something like fuck it, it drum n bass, watcha gonna do?..Something like that.

Matt.

Have used AT&T’s text-to-speech for drops before - outputs straight to wav for download if I remember correctly
