Micro DJ controllers? :P

Micro DJ controllers? :stuck_out_tongue:

I love my RMX+APC40 setup that I got going right now, but Ive been thinking, wouldn’t it be nice to have a small midi controller that you can always carry with you? Idk maybe your friend asks if you do DJ on the spot at a house party or something, you can just whip it out and Jam to an extent.

I found this: [ame=“Amazon.com: Numark DJ 2 Go Ultra-Portable USB DJ Controller for Mac or PC : Musical Instruments”]Amazon.com: Numark DJ to Go Midi Controller: Musical Instruments@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41pRT0HL1wL.@@AMEPARAM@@41pRT0HL1wL[/ame]
It seems nice, I would drop the pitch fades and the load buttons in favor for some room for actual volume faders, and some some buttons to map cue points or loops to.

Would you want a micro DJ controller? Are there any other ones out there? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks!

I almost bought one of these but ended up getting the mixtrack instead, the DJ to go was 60 and the mixtrack was 115. Its small enough to fight in my backpack if I decide to take it somewhere.

this should be much better: http://www.faderfox.de/mark/

i did so i bought an icon idj: ICON iDJ First Impressions

it’s micro and has touch sensitive jogs that respond really well - stacks of pots and buttons u can map too.

what about a korg nano kontrol?? not sure about the 2nd model but the first had 4 pages that can be mapped however, had buttons fadders and knobs  and black looks pretty kool

or for a cheap+portable solution that doesn’t look like a toy (ok - the ipad doesn’t either but is f*cking expensive if all u want is a portable controller) just use a lpd8.

for 2 deck control you can use 4 pots per deck and using note+cc mode you can have 8 mappable pads per deck - before even needing to mess with the internal banks (that while a bit of pain to change might still be useful for such a portable controller)

Faderfox. Soooo brilliant. Couldn’t live without them.

i’ve heard+read great things about the faderfox controllers but can’t decide if i like the styling or not. they seem to actively want to look like kids toys…

funny, kid’s toy was never my association. Mine was more that of an advanced DIY project, especially on the earlier models.
That aside, these things are reliable and astonishingly powerful. Got a DJ1 and a DX2, and both were real lifesavers - just for the fact that I can always shove one of them in my gear bag and I had them with me when all else failed.

I’ve had great success with TouchOSC and my iphone for this kind of application.

I made a custom mapping, etc for MixVibes Cross…and although there are plenty of free traktor templates out there, I’ll be porting this one over to Traktor as well, with a basic FX page as well.

Soundcard, iphone, laptop. Nice and portable.

In personal experience someone djing with an iphone looks a bit funny, at least an ipad looks a bit more professional, people will think you are texting the whole night on an iphone, plus what happends if someone rings??

lol - you turn the phone off when you use it for controllin.

I hear you - but also gotta say that in the context of using a microcontroller in a tight situation it works great.

If you’re in a situation where you’re concerned what people think of the gear you’re using, and that it might affect your name/brand…then I wouldn’t wanna be caught using any micro controller tbh.

I’m thinking, friends house party in a pinch at 2 AM, or on a road trip at campin trip, or something.

ahh yeah sorry didnt completely read the original post, yeah that would be ideal even a page of faders with a few keyboard keys mapped.

personally for this I use my ipad on its own with djay  works fairly good when mixing isnt really too much of an issue although you can still get some pretty decent results.

Truly…you know what…if I owned an iPad - guarantee I woulda recommended that :disappointed:

I so want one.

Ipad or X1 for me

Oh for a mini controller with traktor id pick a nanokontrol 2 over the ipad, i dont use ipad as a controller since I find it too glitchy setting it up on either laptops,

Got the kontrol 2 the other day for sample decks with the faders working as volume controls and the three buttons as load, trigger and play/pause, then the transport controls for the loop recorder forward and rewind to pick sizes and all with led feedback

does it have midi led feedback on the buttons for each channel as well as the transport controls? i might have to get one then, i dont think the nanokontrol1 has led feedback for those…

The best Micro DJ Controller EVAH!

I’m doing crazy mappings with TouchOSC and sometime latter I will join the MIDITouch Crew to try their in-iPAD mapping editor too… :open_mouth:

I’m loving it to the bit, and for live gigs I use it together with a Mixer for lot’s of tactile control and still a good touch interface

I have two of them, love them and now I’m moved to iPAD, but I still want to make some use of them to controll sample decks together with my ipad and external mixer.
