MIDI Controller under $600

MIDI Controller under $600

Hi guys, I have some experience with CDJ’s but now I want to buy one MIDI Controller, I have $600 to spend. These are my options after watch and read some reviews in internet. The order is my interest at now:

1 - Denon MC3000 - $499
2 - Denon MC6000 (used) - $???
3 - Reloop Terminal Mixer 4 - $600
4 - Numark iDJ Pro iPad - $500
5 - Numark N4 - $420
6 - Traktor Kontrol S2 - $500
7 - Vestax VCI-300 MK2 - $500
8 - American Audio VMS4.1 - $500
9 - Pioneer DDJ Ergo - $500
10 - Stanton SCS4.DJ - $500

Opinions and pro’s / con’s of every controller please!

The ergo, the vestax or the s2 would be my choices.

Why not the Novation Twitch?
Buy if i had to choose from those I’d go with th N4 and be prepared for VDJ 8

VCI300, but run as fast as you can away from the VMS, unless you want to be troubleshooting and complaining for the rest of your life. I had two before buying the S4.

To get a good source of info about all the above, go to see their company forums . You’ll see first hand what’s good and bad.

Why not buy a second hand S4?

S2 really is decent for its price

What N4 have to “be prepard for vdj8”?

I dont see Twitch one, i will find informations about it… Tnx

I like these too, the ergo is perfect… Sooo doubts  i need to take a decision

S4 used will be under $600? its a good choice too…

Tnx for all rsponses, waiting for more opnions

Maybe start by planning our ideal controller SW environment and we would go for there. In case Traktor, there are many options besides S4 (which I do own one), for example two NI F1s and an iPad running Oscullator as the controller mixer *). And many other options.

Do you want lots of knobs, jog wheels absolute must or not, separate audio interface OK, interested in a more modular approach for mix-and-match various configs, one turn-key solution?

just for kicks

make your own for far less, use a teensy brain for $16, learn to program it (most of the sketches are done anyway), and you’ll be away.

Of course I was joking, but it’s the way many of the users in the forum got into digital in the first place.

but to answer your question on the S4 …YES

and there’s always the Pioneer offering …now they’ve dropped the prices on the new ones, the 2nd hand market has also dropped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-DDJ-T1-Mint-Condition-w-Free-travel-bag-/130771464097?pt=US_Digital_DJ_Controllers&hash=item1e72962fa1

Virtual DJ 8 is coming out soon, and its supposed to be a hell of a lot better than VDJ7. The N4 has 4 channels but those 4 channels are only really usable in virtual DJ, because serato decided that the N4 was going to only support DJ intro. SO if you want to use serato then don’t get the N4. If you don’t mind using VDJ then I’d get the N4 and use VDJ7 until VDJ 8 comes out.

For m VDJ i perfect. I use it for a long time and love it. It`s not a problem.

That`s GREAT!

DDJ T1 fo $550 it`s a very good price

So guys, i have a new and GREAT option (i think). In the past I had some Denon CDJ and i LOVE it. But there CDJ are TOO expensive… So when i start seek for a controller, i just put the Denon aside because i think ‘‘They are too expensive, so, for me is not possible’’

BUT, for my surprise, one friend tell me about Denon MC3000 and MC6000, and i just LOVE! These two controllers are FANTASTIC!

What you guys have to talk abou it? MC3000 is perfect because have 4 decks AND the price is GREAT (new one for $499) and MC6000 is most powerfull (but i compare these two, and they have almost same buttons and features right?) but the price is too expensive ($799). Maybe used one?

Waiting for more options guys, and TNX A LOT for ALL help

PS: Sory my bad english, I`m brazilian and I never study english in my life, I learn it alone

i’m not sure where you live, but sites like musicians friend and guitar center pretty regularly have %15 off sales so consider that when buying any gear. there are other sites that will price match and barter like proaudiostar so if you show them a competitors sale they will usually beat it by a little bit.

edit: oh i see that you are brazilian, so i’m not sure if you have equivalent music gear sites, but maybe some of your local shops will price match or give you the standard 15% off if you try to barter. there’s some wiggle room in this type of stuff, so give it a shot.

=D

Im brazilian but i will buy the controller in Canada (or maybe USA). I will travel to Toronto in December, so I can buy in Canada or USA, they have almost the same price (Im looking the prices in some sites like Planet DJ and ProAudioStar).

I think you`re right about the bargain, I can talk with some stores and get some discount, I do this a lot in Brazil too

I see some reviews and… I think it will be MC3000

This one have another good point, the price is inside my MAX limit price for something bought in other country. In Brazil, when you go to USA or CANADA, the limit WITHOUT pay ANY TAX is $500, so any controller under $500 have some advantage in this case:smiley:

I personally would go for the s2 since that’s what you have to spend. Although I bought my s2 at the beginning of the summer and now I am wishing I had the s4. The s4 would definitely by the better buy. The s4 has all those other buttons and channels you need to operate traktor to its fullest.

If these guys ever get this to market, I guess (by previous pricing) it will be in your ballpark.

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CMD-STUDIO-4A.aspx - but it was announced at the start of the year, I’ve mailed them repeatedly for info …all i ever seem to get is “coming soon”

This is going in a different direction, I have myself and I LOVE it, I have two trurntables and DVS set up at the same time due it’s clever routing. You will need at least an Audio 4DJ (two channel scratch), but best with an Audio8DJ, then you can get all 4 channels running independently.

loading tracks is done with DVS, I use the mixers effects (not traktor), and the best bit if the computer crashes, it’s a real mixer …just put on some real vinyl.

+1

I’m cooking 16 mod jogFX + Gratification (independent 4 deck) traktor mapping for this controller. Love the 8 hotcues part

from your list my 3 choices would be ..

Denon MC3000
Traktor Kontrol S2
VCI-300 MK2

All god choices… I’m going with 4A because of amount of controls end cos the fect that how blanket is long you can reach your legs till there
