Mix Challenge
What the forum think about having a dj techtools mix challenge I think it would be fun if each week/month we choose 2 or 3 dj with 5 to 10 imposed track to mix and each dj explain their methods and the tools they use and the best mix be put on the blog ?
bijoubreaks.com did something similar - but anyone could enter. over the space of a month everyone debated the tracks to use and when 7 (i think) had be chosen the comp launched, it was a 30 min mini mix thing and you could use any combination of the 7 with a minimum of 5. (or something like that, couple of years ago now, can’t properly remember)
however, as there are so many ppl mixing so many different styles, that would be harder to implement here. at least on BB everyone mixed breaks, made things easier 
How was the result at bijoubreaks ?
some good stuff came out of it. as it was all the same tracks it was more about the mixing, and showed some big differences in how ppl approached it
We could take a kind of spin on that and say
List 10 tracks. 5 of them MUST be used in your mix in some way, shape, or form, and your mix must be 30 minutes long. You can do whatever you want to the songs, but we must notice and recognize them.

I’d do it. I love doing any kind of collaboration on the internet. One of the best “perks” of digital djing imo.
It would be cool to see the different approaches people take. Even if the winner isn’t put on the blog or whatever, it would still be fun.

Im up for it, always looking for a challenge and it would form a nice database for people to hear different mixing techniques and styles. It would be especially great if the DJs would add notes at key points in the mix (sound cloud style) to explain particulary cool effects.
the soundcloud idea is great too. excellent way to relay info on when different mixing tricks come in and what was done etc.
there could be a small interview/post on the front page for the winner!?
might be a little excessive if the mix comps were weekly… but if they were only once a month, i could see that as a very viable reward. (at least from my limited perspective)
Once a month might be a bit much depending on who runs the thing. I’ll bring it up to the mods and see what happens. I think a feature download would work wonders.

one of the moderators that was judging marked me down on the basis he was ‘very disappointed and had heard/expected a lot better from me’ lol
be good to do it again now i have more than a pair of turntables to use
