MS Give it a rest. Win8 is crap, so now its time for Win9?!!?!

Yea so i just passed through this article talking about how big headed Microsoft is getting on revealing their new OS
WIndows 9. at a conference in Aprill 2014.

Im sorry, already there is WAY too few items… let me rephrase that, there are WAY TOO MANY programs that DONT work with windows 8. For me this is a staggering bad feeling im getting.

It appears Microsoft is gearing up to debut its latest operating system — Windows 9 — in April at its annual BUILD 2014 conference.

Rumors have begun swirling as Microsoft prepares to open registration for its developers conference April 2 to 4 in San Francisco.

The conference — which the Redmond software giant is describing as “an unprecedented learning opportunity for developers building on the Microsoft platform” — would be an ideal place to announce Windows 9.

Codenamed ‘Threshold’, Windows 9 is expected to hit store shelves in April 2015, according to Microsoft expert Paul Thurrott.

To distance itself from the Windows 8 debacle, Microsoft is currently planning to drop the Windows 8 name and brand this next release as Windows 9,” Thurrott said in a post to his website. “That could change, but that’s the current thinking.”

Windows 9, Thurrott was told by sources, will include the return of the Start menu and the capacity to run Metro-style apps on the desktop along with desktop applications.

“But Threshold is more important than any specific updates. Windows 8 is tanking harder than Microsoft is comfortable discussing in public, and the latest release, Windows 8.1, which is a substantial and free upgrade with major improvements over the original release, is in use on less than 25 million PCs at the moment,” Thurrott wrote.

“That’s a disaster, and Threshold needs to strike a better balance between meeting the needs of over a billion traditional PC users while enticing users to adopt this new Windows on new types of personal computing devices. In short, it needs to be everything that Windows 8 is not.”

Microsoft debuted its long-awaited Windows 8.1 upgrade in October. It was made available as a free download to all existing Windows 8 customers.

The software addressed many of users’ concerns with Windows 8. The update featured the return of the Start button, provided shortcuts to commands and apps and offered the ability to boot to the traditional desktop layout. Other changes included two new tile sizes (large and small) and the ability to sync customizations, apps and files across all Windows 8.1 devices.

Despite the significant changes, reviews of Windows 8.1 have been mixed, which is likely why Microsoft is so eager to launch the new version of its operating system.

Some analysts and experts have accused Microsoft’s beleaguered Windows 8 of harming PC sales.

IDC analyst Bob O’Donnell has been especially critical and blamed the 14 percent dip in global computer shipments in the first-quarter of 2013, in part, on the lackluster Windows 8.

“While some consumers appreciate the new form factors and touch capabilities of Windows 8, the radical changes to the (user interface), removal of the familiar Start button, and the costs associated with touch have made PCs a less attractive alternative to dedicated tablets and other competitive devices,” O’Donnell said in a note to investors last year. “Microsoft will have to make some very tough decisions moving forward if it wants to help reinvigorate the PC market.”

Perhaps Windows 9 will be the key to a boost in computer sales. If Threshold turns out to be a disappointment too, however, Microsoft will certainly have more abuse heaped on its head.

All windows after XP have been crap and XP wasn’t that great either.

Let the age of android come in.

It’s known that Windows fails on every other OS launch they do…

XP was good
Vista sucked
7 was good
8 sucks
9 should be ok

XP was GREAT.

Touche

that would be a third party problem now wouldn’t it?

anyway. in my opinion microsoft tried to fix something with windows 8 that wasn’t broken in the first place. metro looks good for working on a tablet, but quite useless for a desktop or laptop. there is really no point in having in on there.

but i’m not really moaning. i’m still on windows 7 which does everything i need and is solid as hell. jumping on a new OS without it being field tested by others is never that smart. let a few months pass, let them iron out the hickups and see, if it is worth the upgrade.

Never jump on the version after a good version. Anyone who has used windows over the years will tell you that.

Hopefully they nail this one. Even though I’m a Mac user I still have to use Windows at work so I want it to be better than 8.

8 didn’t even show up on my radar.

Looks like a fuckin’ toy.

It’s pretty bad

People really don’t understand how hard it is to make a single program, let alone a whole OS.

Also, you can’t have progress without experimenting and “trying to fix things which aren’t broken”. The only way to do this is by trial and error and seeing how people react to it. The reason why Windows have a bad-good cycle is because the bad versions introduce new ideas which are later polished in the next, good version.

so what exactly is different between XP and 7? because in its functionality, i cant find it
but they both work great and almost in identical fashion.

If MS experimented with us by having us use Vista, and Win8 in the meantime, it seems they just took it ALL away and repacked XP for us since everyone only complaned about not being able to get it

lets face facts here
THey stopped making XP not because they wanted to introduce new functions.
They stopped because no one was calling to fund their support costs because no one was having problems with XP
It wasnt broken, so they were making no $ off it after a certain point.

Now i see the same thing
I havent heard of ANYONE calling and paying for support on their Win7 machines…and then 8 came into play for a flash in a dream amount of time, then they want to introduce 9

Sorry. Im not buying it
Infact, over the past couple years i have been purchasing towers built for 7
I now have 4 of them here and they have never been turned on.
I have two other Win7 machines under common use and at least now i have about 8 years of Win7 backup machines on standby.

MS can go screw if they want to FORCE me into a position to ONLY BE ABLE TO purchase something after Win7 that still doesnt work

XP never did have much support for 64bit software, and I can’t imagine going back to 2-3GB of RAM.

Windows 7 came three years after Vista, and 8 was three years after 7. What’s the problem with Windows 9 coming three years after the release of 8?

Hardware evolves. Therefore, software evolves. However, software is supported by the OS. Just because Windows versions don’t add “cool things” which you can directly see, it doesn’t mean that we don’t need to upgrade. If you think everything after XP was so shit, why are you not using it?

very simple. we are forced into an upgrade because they stop making programs supported by XP, and most importantly, they stop offering support for XP running hardward. So when something breaks down
or its too clostly to fix your XP machine, you have to purchaes a new one.
While we can always get a hollow machine (XP capable machine with NO DOS or OS built in)
we would still need to FIND someone selling a legitimate copy of XP as an OS to install on it. ANd right now, that is dam hard, and has been for a few years.

Its not that we dont WANT to be using XP, its the same as we were told about (WE HAVE TO UPGRADE OUR TV’s OR WE WILL NOT GET ANY BROADCASTS)

well thats a fu*##@@#)king joke because the only thing that really happneed was we were forced into PAYINg for something that was free and is STILL free.
TV stations are broadcasting for FREE
but we are paying to receive it…?

We dont need DIGITAL tv’s just like we dont NEED to get something better then XP but we just dont have the option.

Yes, we do need digital TV. Do you have any idea how much bandwidth you’d need to stream all those hundreds of channels using analogue? Nevermind the terrible quality.

There’s nothing stopping you using your old software on your old OS. Pretending that new software/hardware brings no advantages isn’t going to change anything.

Microsoft will be offering support for Windows XP until April, 2014.

Also, XP was released around the same time as Pentium 4. Do you really think the same OS can support both Pentium 4 and i5 (let alone any above average processor) and make use of both of them?

you’d think 13 years would be a damn good milage for ANY kind of product  the world of computers is fast lived. hardware can be outdated after 2 years. 13 years for an OS is ancient by these standards. as a comparison: that would be like sitting on windows 2.1 in 2001 and complaining that nobody properly supports or developes 16bit applications anymore.

nobody forces you to use the current OS, but you can’t expect them to keep up support forever for a product that is over a decade old because a minority still uses them while the bulk of they customers uses a much more recent version of their product.

as for devs of third party programs dropping support for the OS: supporting old operating systems is limiting to what can be done. can’t blame them for dropping an old one in favor of the more recent ones where the bulk of their user base is. this may not be true for some of the more basic problems, but it is for more cutting edge software.

I like Windows 8, I haven’t really had a problem with it. I’ve used almost all versions of Windows. I don’t see the fuss about it putting MS down. I’m a Mac user by the way.

Worst Analogy Ever…!!!

(just messing with ya man but it is a bad analogy)
