Hello I currently have one Rokit 6. (Broke the other one)
I want to buy a pair of Rokit 8s, I want to know how to connect all speakers to a audio interface.
I have seen the Focus 2i4 but it only has 2 balanced outputs. I want to have all speakers balanced.
I also want to get the Rokit 10" sub in the future how would I connect all these speakers to my PC?
I also have a DDJ SX and want to know how to connect all the speakers to my controller.
Any help would be appreciated I want to buy the monitors and audio interface today.
Basically I need a audio interface just for adding monitors I dont really need all the midi stuff.
If I understand correctly, you will buy an audio interface to stream audio from your laptop to your monitors, later monitors & sub and then the whole sound system and a ddjsx.
So: 1) Audio interface & Monitors
Its the most simple, you have outputs from the Scralet 2i4
You connect the right channel output to the right monitor and the left channel output to the left monitor.
Audio interface, Monitors & Sub
Here the sub will act as a relay to your monitors
At the back of it, you have the input channels, you will connect those to the scarlet’s output. Then you connect the sub output channels to the monitors inputs and you’re good.
And for your DDJ-SX, I presume Serato DJ can allow you to choose the scarlet as the master output (its a midi controller so the mixer should be in the software) so you wont have to use more cables to root your audio.
Thanks for reply, I need a interface that has more balanced outputs as I have 3 monitors to connect and I will later get the sub.
I looked at the focus 6 in 6 out, do you have any other recommendations? I dont need all the midi stuff I just want to be able to connect all my speakers.
Thanks alot for your help, I ended up ordering another 6 and a krk sub instead of 3 monitors.
I also purchased the Focusrite 6 in 6 out, I understand how to connect the sub and speakers to the interface.
I have one last question, can I connect the whole setup with my ddj sx the same way I would connect to the interface? (one cable from master output on my ddj sx to input on the sub and then both my monitors into output on the sub)
Buying a another 6 and a sub is a good solution! You won’t need more than two outputs for the monitoring. You have to plug the KRK 6ers into the subwoofers outputs and than cables from the interfaces output to the subs inputs. The sub will filter the low frequencies and play them itself while passing the higher frequencies to the two top speakers.
This is explained here on page 7 as well: http://www.krksys.com/manuals/subwoofers/krk10s_manual.pdf
To use your DDJ-SX just plug it into your PC, go into Serato DJ’s settings and select the 6i6 interface as your ouput. That way you don’t have to unplug anything, but can just leave everything as it is.
Because I want to play all my speakers off my PC and I dont want to have to turn my DDJ on everytime I listen to music. (I use my PC daily and prefer to keep the DDJ in good condition and not use it as a music player)
I could of got the 2i2 but I went with the 6i6 just incase later down the line I get another set of monitors, thanks for the advice looks like a good forum.
Thank you I had a look at the manual and it looks useful.
Might sound like a stupid question but do I need 2 cables for the sub input to the interfaces output?
The company I ordered from said I just need 1 cable from sub input to audio interface output. But the manual you showed me had 2 cables coming from sub input.
You have saved me money as I was going to buy some 10 metre leads for connecting my SX to my speakers as my controller is far away from my PC and I use a 10 metre USB cable to connect to PC. (My plan is to have all speakers close to my PC)
If I use the interface as the output for my SX can I still record in Serato? I like recording in Serato because Im used to it.
Sorry if these questions sound dumb, I have been DJing for years but all this stuff still confuses me.
Yeah you need four cables total, two for left and right from interface to the sub, and two more from the sub outputs to each of your left/right monitors. Make sure your interface has XLR outputs, that way you can use four XLR cables for all the connections. My interface only has balanced TRS output, so I need TRS>XLR cable to connect to monitors.
If I were you I would use the new interface outputs to the sub/monitors, but I suppose you could connect the monitors to the SX if you wanted to.. I’m not positive about the Serato recording (I don’t use it), but that should work regardless of which output/interface you use.
Thanks, I ordered the Focusrite and it only has TRS outputs, someone told me there is no interface with XLR outputs dont know if this is true. I will have to use same cables as you.
Hopefully I can set up Serato to use my interface as output. As this way like the other guy said I dont have to keep on changing leads.
I will have all my equipment on Thursday, I will let you know how I get on. Currently just using one KRK 6 its horrible lol
There are a bunch of audio interfaces with XLR out, in fact I think the interface built in to your SX has XLR out, but in general they tend to be a bit more expensive than the models with TRS.
I don’t see why Serato wouldn’t let you use your interface for output, that’s a pretty basic requirement that any decent software should be able to accommodate. Again I don’t use it personally so you might want to check with someone who does if you haven’t bought it yet.
Yes my SX does have master out as XLR, booth is TRS.
The interface I have brought has cost me £200 ($320) dont really want to spend more than that.
So I would need another 2 cables from master out to interface? I will have 2 free TRS outputs with my interface with all the speakers plugged in. (I have 6 in 6 out interface, only 4 balanced outs)
Think im going to need another two 10 metre leads I already have 4 lol
Hopefully some more experienced DJs will chime in, but if you are just using the SX as a controller, you don’t really need to use its audio/master outputs for anything. I would connect the SX and the 6i6 to the computer with USB. Set up the SX as your controller in Serato, but use the 6i6 as your audio interface. That way you can just have the 6i6 output going to the monitors.
I don’t see why you would need to connect the SX to the 6i6, they are both audio interfaces. If you are running some other audio source (CDJ or vinyl), that can be connected to the SX mixer, but as long as the SX is connected to your computer with USB it shouldn’t need to be connected to the 6i6.
Use two of the balanced outs from your 6i6 (one left, one right) to your sub, then two more from your sub to speakers (four cables total). You’ll probably need 2x TRS balanced > XLR (for interface to sub) and 2x XLR > XLR (for sub to monitors)
Problem is I have been searching on the internet, and you cannot change the audio interface via Serato.
When I plug the SX into my PC it automatically takes control of the sound card and the music has to come out of one of the master outputs.
I will need two leads either from master out put 1 (XLR) or booth (TRS) and then plug them into the input on my interface. (There is 2 TRS inputs on the back of the interface)
I think this is the only way it will work, I get my stuff on Thursday so I will wait before I buy the leads and see if there is any way of getting around this.
I appreciate your help
