New Set Up HELP DJM800 + 2- Kontrol x1s + What interface 4 channel mixing

Hey guys, I’m just in the process of changing my set up over to 2 X1s and my DJM800, the question I have is, can I get any interface (because I would like one that will be good for producing, as I am just starting to scratch the surface there) or do I have to get a traktor audio 8 or 10 if I would like my 2 Kontrol x1s to be run into the four channels on my mixer. The interfaces that have the most appeal to me and my budget are the M-Audio Profire 610, Akai EiE Pro and the Apogee Duet. With the Akai and M-audio would it be possible to buy 1/4" conversion cables to RCA, so that I could have the outputs from the interface running into the DJMs 4 RCA channels? If you guys can help me out here or have any suggestions feel free to put your input in.

Thanks!

Might be a little out of your budget but I used to use a Motu Ultralite MK3. Thing is a tank and has amazing sound quality.
Still use it in my studio and honestly will probably never have to buy another audio interface again.

You just use 1/4" to rca cables for the conversion. yes.

the Akai only has 4 outputs, you need 4 sets of outputs technically.

Thanks for your input! I’ll check it out, and does your interface work well with Macs? And do you know will the 1/4" to RCA cables work on any interface properly sent to the mixer?

Audio 8s are fairly cheap now; there’s also the ESI Gigaport. Out of the interfaces you linked, only the M-Audio 610 has enough outputs for 4 Traktor decks.

You could also aggregate 2 sound cards together to get the required number of outputs as this can be done very easily on Macs.

So from what I’ve seen so far, the M-audio would be the best option because It has Midi In (for my DJM800) and I would be able to connect 2 x1s to my comp and have the audio feed out to the 4 channels of my Mixer. Correct?

Considering your budget is well over £150, you’d be best off buying a Zomo MC-1000 tbh. Will give you a few more transport controls in addition to the X1s, nice big CUP/play button, and 4-deck control with the built in 8-output soundcard.

Plus, it looks BADASS alongside a DJM-800.

Yes, you should be able to do all that with the M-Audio 610. Does your computer have a firewire port?

Yes its a 2011 macbook pro so I believe it’s got an 800 type firewire port

Are you saying to get the Zumo MC-1000 instead of the x1’s or with the x1’s too? They seem to pretty well similar midi controllers apart form the built in soundcard.

it does indeed you will find you will need to buy a firewire cable seperately from the profires supplied one as the 2 that came when i got miy profire were firewire mini and a firewire 400 6 pin style you need an 9 pin to 6 pin firewire lead

the zomo would take the place of 2 X1s and the audio interface. All for mad cheap.

It’s up to you mate  You could get a single X1 to use for decks C/D and use the Zomo for A/B, or have the Zomo mapped for something completely different; but you can use the Zomo to output the audio for all 4 decks whatever configuration you choose

Or this, yeah :stuck_out_tongue:!

for 3 stereo outs and a good procuction AI i’d go with this. Personally never use more than two decks let alone three… though you could route two remix decks to the 3rd stereo out

Also X1s are nice, and fit nicely next to a DJM… I wouldn’t want to lean over with that zomo or shove it up… controller next to mixer feels ergonomically right to me

If your X1s come/came with accessory vouchers, you can get the NI Kontrol Stand for half price which raises the controller to perfect mixer height and is very sturdy. It also doubles as a protective case for transport.

I’m selling an Audio 8 on the Buy/Sell forums if you need one. Looking to sell quick.

About the Zomo it does look extremely appealing and it appears that I wouldn’t need the x1s anymore (and I would really only use three decks not four) but one feature I like on the x1s is how you can browse through your tracks 32,16,8 or how ever many you choose with the browsing encoder. I can see that you can adjust the loop size with the zomo but are you able to browse through your track by how ever many bars you choose?

Thanks

Yep, with my mapping there’s a separate beatjump encoder next to the loop one (labelled FX Select); press it down and twist and it changes the beatjump size, then turning it normally skips through the track by that amount

Saaaaweeet you’ve pretty well sold me on the MC1000 then and it will save me a bunch of money so I guess the last question I would have is what would I add to my set up if I want to add a jog wheel for beat matching? Is there anything really cheap and basics that’s pretty well just a jog wheel since I have all other controls on the Zomo, and did you map it yourself or do you use the mapping it came with?

There’s a few options for a single jogwheel controller; there’s the Reloop Contour (a few people on the forum are selling theirs), which also has a 10-output soundcard built into it (only the Interface Edition, the cheaper Controller Edition lacks the soundcard), or the Xone:1d, although the jogwheel is smaller and not as nice feeling, or the DJ Tech Kontrol One, or even the DJ Tech CDJ-101. The CDJ-101 is probably the cheapest option; Maplin in the UK used to sell them for £15, so occasionally they pop up on the used market for peanuts.

Or, if you want to go REALLY high-class, you could add a Stanton SCS.1D or a Denon DN-S3900 for some gorgeous motorized platter action. A cheaper - but still high quality - option would be the non-motorized Denon DN-SC2000.

Personally, I mostly play house/trance, so all of my stuff is beatgridded and synced; I rarely find myself using the jogwheels so only use a controller with jogs if I’m playing a Top 40 set or R’n’B. Ultimately it all comes down to what genres you play

EDIT: There’s a CDJ101 on eBay at the moment for £30 brand new: Pardon our interruption...

They look RIDICULOUS, but are actually pretty well made, with a nice solid metal jogwheel with plastic trim. Much better physical construction than the jogs on the S2/S4, although not quite as good as Reloop’s Jockey/TM series.

Hey! Thought that’d I’d let you know that your help helped determine my set up, Thanks! I ended up selling all my old stuff and getting $700 for them (actually made money on them lol) and bought the two cdj101 that you linked me too (thanks again) ended up being 120 bux for the both of them with shipping, and I bought a brand new Zomo MC1000 that I’m insanely excited to use. So last question I have for you is that I see you also have a Zomo and was wondering if you had any sweet mappings you’d like to share? Let me know, and THANKS A TONNE!!!
