Ok im getting ready to get some tables to accommodate my S4, and i was looking at the TTX1 and i realized they are kinda hard to find for some reason but the USB version is easy to come by. Some reviews say the USB version is good for scratching while others say it sucks for scratching and is only good for mixing. Im looking for something decent to scratch on but mostly mixing. Ideas?
yeah but the cheapest pair of 1200s i can find is 1200+ and I have too much goin on to drop that kind of cash really . im just starting out using vinyl (been using a mixtrack till recently upgraded to S4) So im just looking for a decent turntable to get the real feel with
Yep agree with that my gripes with my tt500s where the pitch faders felt like shit and had a habit of sticking the motors had a habit of speeding up and acting madly and a load more stuff !
Not had a problem with tt200, apart from the motor is obviously less tourquey then a Technics, not a problem, just make sure the slip mat does what it says on the tin.
Zero problems with dodgy pitch or sticky pitch sliders here
For £50 second hand you cant knock them, really, unless you get an abused one
yeah but like i said, i would love technics because thats whats getting me into trying out vinyl. (i love controllerism) But i don’t really want to throw that much money into it especially if im not that into in and just stick with the S4 and my midi fighter. Do you know if the TTXUSB is decent for beginner turntablist? i mean if its just for listening to records then I’m not gonna worry about it ill get something like the Stanton T.62 or a St.150. I mean i know technics are the best there are but they arent the ONLY good turntable
Actually they are. For real. Either save up for Technics, or just don’t bother, because whatever cheap turntable you buy, you WILL get rid of to get 1200s. Trust me; i’ve seen two very close friends (and very good DJs) get TT200s, and they both dumped them less than 3 months later for 1200s. Just keep checking Craigslist; something WILL come up. I just found one about an hour away for $150, so deals are out there…
Perfect for that, mate, great for scratching ( but i cant scratch me arse with both hands)
Only mod ive made is an Ortofon Concord Pro S cart & Stylus, and a really slippy plastic shopping bag cut to 12" diameter and placed under the mat.
I swore id never touch vinyl again for mixing, but if you look at the stuff i play on my mixcloud pages, it aint out there digitally so its Wax only and rip it myself… Then of course you get to thinking… why should i bother ripping when i got the original on wax?
Loads of the stuff i record at home is mixed via analogue mixer with TT decks in 2 channels and the two outs from the midi in to the other two channels..
You could of course do this with a 2 channel mixer and flick the line / phono switch as required
If your going to scratch (turntablist) just make sure the TT your looking to buy has some torque and is direct drive…probably the most important features when it comes to scratching.
Lol forget the Digi laptop versus CDJ / Vinyl Shizz, there is also TT snobbery to contend with..
Numarks in good order are perfectly fit for purpose, cheap as chips second hand and as long as buy direct drive you’ll always get your money back if and when you outgrow them
In 89 ish i learned on belt drive wooden cased Garrard decks without pitch controls..
How the hell did i manage..
Edit: ^^^ i agree with above Direct drive is an absolute must, i had no choice 20 years ago, these days for a few quid extra it costs to get direct drives, its a no brainer
Me, i dont give a shit as long as it gets the same job done for less money..
if branding bothered me that much id go down the market and buy a fake addidas and sew some badges on
Next you’ll be recommending directional oxygen free copper cables with gold banana plugs before ya know it
Im looking more toward the TTX than the TT200, they seem to be a little better built and more torque than the TT200, but like i said when i started this thread, does anyone have any experience with the USB version because its the more common find? but im leaning toward the TTX (non-USB if the USB isnt good for scratching) or the Stanton ST. 150
I’d take a TTXUSB or STR8-150 over a Technics. Why? Because FOR ME, it’s all about features rather than lasting 30 years. And I have no reason to think that those decks won’t last a good while either. The TTXUSB (formerly the TTX1) had bad press because of sensor issues in the early models. But that has been fixed years ago.
Yes, using Technics is a safe choice, but there are other decks available. If you’re being cash conscious, the TT500 is pretty good too.
I can only tell you my personal experience of the TT200 and not the other Numark models…
Of course im gonna agree that the 1210’s are the bomb.. they are, again if looked after, but to me its a pricey way to test the water
1 deck was originally bought only to rip from vinyl until it proved itself capable of far more.
Listen to the other folks experiences off here too, then make your own judgement, get to try different makes and models if at all possible
Stratchworx, do you have any experience with the TTXUSB? thats what i started this thread for was to find out about the difference between the TTX and the TTXUSB, ive read alot of reviews that say the torque on the USB isnt that good that its mostly used to transfer a vinyl music collection to digital and for mixing, not much scratching. What are your views on that?
I’ve got 2 Numark TTX USB’s and they work fine. As far as torque goes the Technics have 1.5kgf cm and the Numarks have 3 settings (all of them stronger than Technics) 2.5, 3.7, and 4.7 kgf cm. I haven’t really heard of anyone having any issues with this model of Numarks. If I listened to everyone who told me to wait for a good deal on Technics I’d prolly still be waiting and watching the price slowly increase. The Stantons are also a good choice from what I hear.
