Numark v7 - We got hosed tommy, we got hosed…

So, knowing nothing about DJing I decided if I was going to get good I had to have “real” turntables and also I needed to have something that hooked up to a computer because it was the future. Enter Numark v7. These babies would be an investment that would pay off for years, and I bought them just before the Numark s6 came out with 4 decks. Frustrated with the software and the lack of support and the lack of versatility of the x5 mixer I got a vci400 ege and mothballed the v7. A few years ago I pulled them out and set them up with my backup laptop to just have something out to mix on and keep me up to practice so I didn’t have to rely on my one controller and I kinda like the vinyl look and feel. The beta crap pissed me off, I let my wife set up her craft table and put the v7s away again. Just today I dust them off thinking after 2 long years numark finally figured it out and started supporting their product. I see no information about serato dj for numark v7 except threads from 2013. I clicked the support tab at numark dot com and the links to download the software are dead links.
What’s a guy to do? I just want some crappy turntables set up in the corner of my basement so I can practice scratching in and mixing without the sync button… Am I gonna have to buy virtual DJ? About the only reason why I’d do that is for the karaoke cloud service for $20 a month, but I’m not ready to get into karaoke. Somebody point me in the right direction or at the very least feign sympathy and then call me a dumbass for expecting anything from Numark to have staying power.

I’ve ran my ns6 for 5 years for God know how many hours and it was purchased used in not working condition littler was 3 months old so snagged it for half price… Reflashed firmware and it’s been good since… I think eventually it’ll start cutting up soon enough but as of now it still can mix music… I think headphone cue has an issue somewhere but I am unsure as I don’t know if headphones or maybe just me convincing myself there’s something wrong

If u just want to scratch and mess around, JUST USE SOME RECORDS?

edit
disregard this i guess, i thought when you said turntables, you meant record players.

As far as I can see, Numark V7 is “Plug-and-Play supported hardware that does not require a Serato DJ purchase.” There’s quickstart guide and download link for the Serato DJ software.

Links for drivers are here: V7 | Numark and working soo…what your problem?

http://www.numark.com/support/downloads/v7 Has a bum link for the software (serato DJ and itch) and when I googled if it was supported I found links threads from 2013 and then the beta forum. I got super pissed off that 2 years later no progress was made. I guess that’s my problem. I had the wrong link. Is Serato DJ free for v7 owners or do I have to buy it?

You can download Serato DJ for free. Install it on your computer, plug in the v7 and see if it works.

I see that now thanks to the link I was given to Serato.com.

I guess I just need to take a class on how to google sh*t. I’m obvious no good at it to have turned up nothing when it is so obviously supported now. I guess I’m just butt-hurt from back in 2013 when the ns7 was supported immediately and the v7 stayed in beta because they couldn’t figure out how to keep us from mapping 4 decks to it and didn’t want us to be content with our old controller without buying the ns7 mk2 or mk3

I had a smack myself in the head moment the other day as well. 20 hours of troubleshooting later and you realize you had the wrong box checked. Pissed but relieved I got it working.

Downloaded it and hooked it up. It appears to have 1 deck support. As soon as I hit play on the second deck it hangs. I have a core i5 MacBook Pro with 16gb of ram. It should be able to run this program. I think I’m gonna have to return to my original statement. We got hosed tommy, we got hosed…

Run latency monitor

I couldn’t find latency monitor but maxed latency out at 20ms and the program is not immediately hanging anymore. I thought MacBook pros were supposed to be tougher than that… I used to run these things on a core i3 toshiba with 4 gigs of ram

It could be something else causing issues… I have an i7 2.5 qm with 8gb of ram 480gb SSD nvidia 650m… Out of no where a few updates back I have had strange almost
Impossible to duplicate I’m about to reload os because it just acts weird master audio has only
Dropped once but like program will freeze
Up when browsing library for a second or two and wave forms gets glitchy and jerky even through I have tuned down to middle of the road refreshes

One thing to try is I’ve had ableton and flp sometimes cause issues so my djing laptop I’ve removed both and it helped with weird issues… Another thing likely obvious but have you tried a different USB cable? Also up at top of SDJ by the master/gain do you ever get red orange or yellow little lights/blinks if you are those are indication that something is overloading… I would pay close attention to that… Adjusting latency is a issue especially if you are mixing on them like vinyl where your holding the platter and releasing to drop the beat… I would kind of play around if you are and look to see if it is an issue or will be an issue… Of course if you modernized tour playing technique to use the cue to drop in then this is not a issue

I’ll be honest troubleshooting these issues is what has turned me off to trusting anything computer related… I have an xdj-rx on order because of this…

Last gig I played I showed up with 2 controllers 2 laptops an external with my entire current library backed up to and 3 USB sticks with small selection of tracks ready to go… I am overly paranoid because I was having issues with audio and once it happened on the master and because of that I’m super paranoid… Again it only ever happened once at home and I’d die/utterly embarrassed if it happened mid set at a gig

So to kinda touch basis on one thing I really like about serato I posted a bug and dumped an extensive amount of into into the ticket and in current new update both issues are addressed but this one being the biggest… The ns6 split cue and cue knob in general quit functioning properly and was really hard to get he perfect balance… I see
They now addressed it in an update so now I’m excited to see how well they fixed it because it made cueing a nightmare especially at club volumes even with noise canceling cans

Yes, I am trying to get good at mixing by hand and by ear without the sync button. Latency can cause a bunch of problems there. It’s not a huge issue because this is just my home setup for practice, I use my Vci 400 and traktor on my gigs. Very stable now. Had an issue at a gig once, the tempo crawled down and I couldn’t get it back up. It was playing Bruno Mars marry me at 60bpm.
I run traktor and a few lighting programs on that MacBook as well, but not at the same time of course. I need to keep traktor on there for wedding ceremonies and I program my lightshow on that machine too.

I never was a fan of traktor for mobile dj gigs mixing open format for people who do not care seems counter productive I use virtual Dj and just load up playlists and auto play… I do have my second laptop setup with serato so I can mix tracks when needed… And I do the odd time start manually mixing tracks…

Yeah I never have and can’t imagine ever will sync… I just am so used to manual beat matching and a bpm read out with quantization is all you really need as far as I’m concerned

I must have said something wrong. I’m a sync button dependent computer DJ. What I’ve found by mixing in clubs side by side with other DJs is that I don’t actually need it, because I can transition to their song as long as I know what bpm their track is. Been using sync so long I never realized I had gotten the timing down. I just need practice.

Yup exactly and since most everyone has at least a mixer or a CDJ that will show bpm it really is a minor detail… That is why I always get a laugh when I see a Dj that can’t transition between others because they can beat match…

I’ve seen far too many laptop djs that when they switch off they have to do an effect out on the house mixer or just straight mix an intro off beat then cue jump into a track to cover the lack of beat matching..

Just curious, have you checked the firmware? I just had an incident with a controller where it was hanging up in Virtual DJ… updating the firmware fixed it.

Sync, in my opinion, is great for matching the BPM of the tracks. I don’t trust software enough to use it for anything else. And even then, the BPM that the software has for the track can be wrong as well.
