Tapco Thump, Matrix-1000. Check em out..
^^^ beat me to it. Good recommendations. The Matrix should give you a little more content below 80hz, on down to say… 50hz). The thumps are good for most things, they will get you by, and can be picked up used fo cheap.
What type of music do you play?
electro dance so they need a good thump. i just need something solid (yet not too expensive) that i can take take along to parties when I Dj them because it really helps getting hired if you can provide your own speakers
would you reccommend getting second hand ones? for example some speakers that used to be in a hire place? or is that a bad idea…
Usually I dont buy used speakers unless I happen to know the person I’m buying from ( and the price is right). If you consider buying used, make sure to ask how old they are, what application they’ve been used for, etc etc. Just try to make sure they havnt been abused. Get a demo too.
ITs hard to break those thumps. Theyve got built in protection if I remember correctly.
For a proper answer, you need to know just how many people you expect to be playing out to.
jbl eons sound incredible for house parties, small bars and clubs. i would highly recommend as a first pa. a friend of mine got these not to long ago and i love the sound of them. If you are getting paid for something now and you think this will get you more gigs consider this as an investment. Research your needs listen to some at a local store and go on the net and find the best price. Just like anything else you get what you pay for. cheap equipment usually isnt a wise investment
Mackie Thumps I personally think are the best bang for your buck. Allows for you to add later on a sub if needed. Rainbow guitars was selling these a while back for 290 a speaker. Had GC price match. I’ve heard EONs, Mackie450’s, etc. unless you are dishing out some cash for some higher end EV’s, QSC’s, etc. For the price these will rock a good sized house party with no issues.
cheers, ive checked out the Thumps and they look sick, I’ll be playing for crowds from as small as 40-50 up to like 120. Also, do you reccommend using some kind of converter to balance out the signal from my soundcard before plugging into the speakers or just go striaght from the sound card into the back of the speaker?
I have a pair of the mackie thumps as well. I’m looking for a powered sub to go with them for our mobile dj setup though - any suggestions for a similar price/performance ratio sub?
We use a mixer for our setup, but I imagine you could just go straight from your soundcard if you had the right hookups. Just remember to have the output turned all the way down before you turn them on…
if mixing internally (VCI-100) I hook’em up straight from the soundcard.
i’ve used eon 12’s and 15’s a few times and give them no complaints
build your own ![]()
got “hk audio lucas performer”. love 'em.
My PA speakers are old car speakers powered by plate amps.

This works good for subwoofers because you can buy 2 15s each in thier own box, plate amp them for under $500 for 2 15s that have some 400watt plate amps.
Or…buy some car subwoofers, then a decent rack amplifier. then bridge the speakers.
Thats what I did. I rock 2 T30s and 2 Otop12s.
Actually just finished getting the duratex on the cabs. These things rip.
HOWEVER!!!
If you want to go this route, I suggest doing A LOT of reading on the BFM forums before deciding on a setup. If I sell this set, I might go ahead and build titan 48s instead of t30s next time, because they have similar extension but are in excess of 8-10 db louder above 60hz, which is a shit ton. You can also load the 48s with the 3015lf, which, at the same price point as the 3012lf, gives you a lot more cone area (more air mass on the push/pull) to work with, which is VERY important to horn loaded designs.
Not everyone has the time to go the DIY route. Thats why you dont see me recommend BFM systems to every single person who makes a thread with a similar title.
got the HK Lucas smart system here - the HK range are fantastic.
what do you think about the tuba 30 vs titan 39, i play a lot of EDM with deep bass lines, do I really need that extra lower range over the increased output of the titan?
What type of EDM do you play? The T39 is crossed over at 45hz, which is 10 hz higher than the t30. Couple this with the extra low end sensitivity of the t30 over the t39, and the t30 goes a good deal lower.
What type of EDM do you play? Let me rephrase that: do you play dubstep and DnB on the reg?
