Pretty soon, no more controllers needed

I found an article on a patent application submitted by apple for a touch screen product. Within the patent, theres a section that discusses the use of the touch screen for operating a “music application” (iDj?) with two virtual turntables… see where this is going?

So there you go folks, the future of DJ software… no midi controller’s needed.

check out the article:

…and just when I thought something like this would be cool on a touch screen tablet PC…seems apple already had that covered too…

enjoy!

No, thank you, I like pushing buttons, moving sliders, twisting knobs, and spinning jog wheels!

Yeah… I mean, tablets can be cool for some things… but I need some tactile response and touch screens just don’t give you that. Now, a product that incorporates it all would be awesome. I’d like to draw eq curves with my fingers while controlling an effect

Why would I want to use virtual turntables when I never used actual ones and have no plans to?

LOLz.. Fair remark steve!

I love vinyl, but also my BCR2000 while handling traktor.

Just caught this on gizmodo, interesting concept at least…

Drawing a EQ with your hand would be nice,
What also would be really friggen handy is to be able use gestures to control filters and stuff to do crazy frequency sweeps easily and with precise control.

This is just plain weird…

I know I would be able to twist that knob through my screen whilst operating.

Knobs cant match touchscreen interfaces for some things i am afraid.

i like the idea of this reactable.

I still tend to find it weird… touchscreens emulating knobs etc.

Some things they are good at, some things they are crap at - its all about using them for what they are best for. Its like all any control out there, some things do some things better than others. Like how volume faders are best for volume and the crossfader is best for cross fading each interface is best for doing a different thing

Hear hear!

But you must agree with me that sticking a knob to a touch screen should not be an option.

Yeah i think knobs make better knobs than touchscreens make knobs… strange that :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do people come up with that stuff?

my little cousin recently smashed a cup. i asked him : why did you do that ?
he answered : because i wanted !

I would find the urge to hit… Just because I wanted.

(Nah, not really. )

windows did a project like this also, for the family thing, have a tactile table computer is fun, fast… but mannnnn i need to touch and turn every fuckin sens this sensibles buttons, i need to feel thems between my delicate and crazy fingers… oh godd give me more sensation that what i need… a contact to make me feel better than ever…
oh god… where is my controllers, i need to do something now…

see you

Touchscreen knobs are superior to real knobs in the fact that you can skip to any skip to points along the knob way - you cant do that with a knob.

I like the idea of the touchscreen knobs if you needed to attach a physical knob to it, like those musicians who were performing music by dropping magnetic boxes on a touch screen.

dunno. Once we figure out how to implement it all together in a logical fashion we’ll be able to really blow this shit up
