i dont have any equipment yet but yeah this is just using the computer.
getting equipment soon

ik its probably not so good but just wanted an idea.

any suggestions?

i know people tell me about beatmatching and stuff but i wouldnt think they would do that live.

sounds alright for a first mix, esepecially with just a computer. Next time though put a mark at all of the transitions.

Also almost all DJ’s beatmatch live. It might seem like a big hassle at first but after you start to get the hang of it it just gets easier and easier. Plus unfortunately you can’t always rely on computers to read the music right. If you always use sync then you have to make sure that all of your songs are properly beatgridded.

The whole idea of a mix is to do just that - mix the tunes together. So you’re hearing different parts of 2 tracks playing at the same in a way that sounds good, so the whole thing flows. For example, you hear that bit at 17mins? that could be blended into another track very easily, using EQs so you don’t have too much bass at any one time.

What you’ve basically done there is to play tracks one after the other, occasionally using a turntable effect at the end. If that’s all you do, you might as well just stick on iTunes.

Also at 14.30 you had the volume turned down.

Thanks guys for your input. although i dont have any equipment yet so like what are your suggestions for now? how do i practice beatmatching.

with no equipment, don’t bother beatmatching by ear. It’s not worth it. Use sync, but learn how to use it properly.

I would suggest that beatmatching without equipment is the ultimate challenge. For one to be a true master they should also turn off the monitor and invert the orientation of the mouse. That’s pretty much the only way real men do it today.

Hey smitten: I’m under 21, and I spin electro house. Show me an elk with a speech impediment.

Meet me at the Cleveland downtown Amtrak station in an hour and i’ll show you all kinds of things.

Lol that was some funny shit…

are you going to keep his back warm

I’ll start with his back…

I don’t want to be harsh, but I’m kinda having a bad day, so here goes :-p

This is crap. Please don’t call yourself a DJ. A DJ mixes two songs together or otherwise presents them in a unique way. A DJ does not just simply play songs back to back. Pretty much everything a DJ does is LIVE, you think we have a button to push that drops a scratch sound and automatically mixes songs? (Wait… well some people do, and I hate their disrespect of the art) DJing with a high level of skill is hard, and that’s why we get paid to do it.

Ok, here would be my suggestion. If you can afford it, get a S4, NS6, or MC6000. There are other controllers that are cheaper, you can research those on your own. Then find out about the art of DJing, there’s a book How to DJ Right: The Art and Science of Playing Records by Frank Broughton and Bill Brewster I recommend you start there. You do have 2 things down that are important and that’s track selection and a passion for this. Treat is as an art that needs to be practiced and mastered and you’ll go far.

i misworded what i called my “mix”. Disc Jockeys dont necessrily HAVE to mix. thats just the main concept now. disc jockeys back in the day would just load up songs and play them one after another. now its gotten more advanced. so technically speaking im a DJ, but i didnt make a mix (combing songs togethers) and i dont have equipment yet (which i am soon getting next week). i dont need to read books. i know my music. im a musician. ive played piano, drums, guitar, bass for 7+ years. now im becoming a Dj.

So you’ve basically posted a playlist of songs for approval?
Of course.

you could get a cheapo usb soundcard for a couple of bucks to use for cueing in the next track - only issue is getting latency to match your internal sound card - but it is doable.

if you have a synaptics touch pad you can also try using touchpad2midi to use your touchpad as a jog etc.

no need to spends stacks of cash when first experimenting etc.

you can work magic with just a mouse and keyboard mapping, believe me i did it for 4 years before any decent gear started coming out
