Recording Dummy Clips Live, then deleting them.

SO AFRODJMAC posted a great article (inspired by Tom Cosm) on “Recording Dummy Clips Live” with Ableton 9.

Does anyone know of a way these clips could be deleted on the fly?

Alternative, selected tracks (tracks 4-8) aren’t affected by scene launches.

I use scenes to launch new songs in my clip matrix. I play my creations in very musician/set sort of way (song, pause, song, more show banter), so the scene launch setting are essential (tempo launch, dummy clip tricks).
I often go back to play a previous scene and would like the previously recorded automation to not be there.

Deleting clips in Live is easy.

Using keyboard keys you can navigate to the slot and delete the clip.

If you have a midi controller with some free buttons you can use Bomes MT to covert the midi to key strokes…

well considering i use controllers I’m trying to avoid my keyboard. If I have to use my keyboard for anything, I go into keyboard mode, which i only do when i don’t have my controllers (editing) and this cross thinking can mess me up live.

i suppose i could map the scene selecting knob and use bomes, but I hate external midi conversion-ware. I’ve had corrupted files, lag, horrible documentation. Still a good suggestion that I might resort to, but not my 1st choice.

maybe a way to delete everything in a track?

Hmmm… Not sure. Maybe map a midi button to the track header, and hit delete once the track is highlighted?

Not sure if this will delete the entire track, or just the contents of the selected track..,

OHHHH, I think I have a solution to my own problem but I’ll have to check it when I get home from work. Just discovered you can midi map the paramater automation button on the arrangement screen.

Clip automation is a global setting, so that might just work…

Midi map the track status display to a midi key to select the playing clip on the channel (clip will need to be playing however).

And either just press delete on the keyboard or use midi > keystroke editor (midistroke on mac) and map the keyboards delete to a midi key.
