Regarding routing ableton to traktor.

gee thanks but i am quite aware of the difference between the two :stuck_out_tongue:

if u have your controller(s) setup well and you’re used to them then you should know what controls are for what without having to look at the screen.

what ofc u do need to look at the screen for in ableton is to see what sets of clips u are scrolled to but it’s not like most people never look at their laptop screens when running traktor and u need to for track browsing etc

both a traktor and ableton setup can get pretty complicated midi wise if u want it to - i don’t see a big difference between the two from that respect

My whole S2 mapping is a generic device, check out this thread: Duplicating the DJTT S2 mapping to control 4 decks. - Page 13, we managed to map all 4 decks to the S2 using Shift+tempo reset to switch between decks. So if i changed all the EQ,volume faders and cue buttons to ableton i’d be good to go?

Also regarding the EQ’s in ableton, i need to pull in a EQ Three on each track right?

that should do it… just tested with my lpd8 that i had lying around and am able to use the same pot to control something in traktor and ableton at the same time and even dump from midimasher. i can’t connect to it again tho from midimasher - so somehow traktor+ableton open the device in a non-exclusive read more. i didn’t realise they did that… wonder if u can write to the midi device from both apps at the same time too to update leds?

i’m using an eq three in each track at the moment - but also started investigating other vst’s that may do a better job. they don’t seem bad to me, tho slightly odd the zero position is at about 4 o’clock - be nicer if they acted more like an actual pot with zero at 12 o’clock. could be some ableton settings to do that tho?

Ok i’ll start testing and come back here.

BTW, do you have any recommend TouchOSC or Lemur templates to control ableton effects?

@ Zestoi

Check out Tarekith’s DJ Eq’s and FX, much much better than the standard EQ 3 and they have 12 O’ zeroing.

They were the first thing that went in my rack.

Also going to recommend Mlovers DJ Effects Racks .. awesome stuff.

no clue - i don’t have an ipad - also don’t (yet) have live8 so don’t have “effects racks” which make midi mapping much simpler.

fantastic! thanks  off to look at those sites now… wish i had experimented more with ableton ages ago. was put off by the “perceived lurning curve” i guess - tho it’s all been pretty easy so far (maybe less so when i upgrade to live8 and mess with remote scripts :stuck_out_tongue:)

@deevey seems i need to upgrade to ableton8 then asap so i can use these cool things  i guess there’s no danger of live9 showing up too soon so shouldn’t be a waste of money

Not even a whiff of it on the horizon yet unfortunately :disappointed: I’m guessing the upgrade “should” be good value though if it gets released.

LOL I’m surprised live 5 even runs on your machine !

Oh and check the Ableton Forums for deals !!

e.g. https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=179433

that’s what i figured… was also thinking of waiting for bitwig - but i want something i can use now…

runs fine  i bought live5 2nd hand about a year ago for pc and was able to download the mac version from ableton and get a free mac license. i have it running on my mac and the pc version running under wine on ubuntu studio.

i figured i’d wait until i got into it enough to realise what i may be missing from a newer version… racks, drum racks and sidechaining are the features i think i’m missing and could really use. plus being able to buy add on packs ofc…

that’s a pretty cool deal  i can upgrade from my live5 to live8suite for 320eur or to just live8 for 149eur. i’ll probably just go for live8 for now. i presume upgrading from live8 to live8 (if it ever surfaces) will be a lot cheaper than that? in my ableton account it does say “Live 1-6 to Live 8 Upgrade” so presume from live7 to live8 would be cheaper.

i think we have all learned a little something here today  busy with a mapping now, generic midi mode all mixer controls left for ableton and all deck control and traktor effects controlled from traktor on the s2, four decks and no switching between decks apart from jog wheels and tempo faders. will post a picture and labels up once i am a bit further along

Seriously ? cheap deal so … I think the upgrade from 7-8 was the same price, I don’t see an upgrade path jump from 5-8, but guess everyones’s account is different.

yep - not too shabby  guess it depends on what licenses are in there, for a download version of live8 i can either go for “Live 1-6 to Live 8 Upgrade” at 149eur or “Live Lite to Live 8 Upgrade” for 269eur, tough choice

i guess only someone with a copy of live7 is going to see that upgrade price, but i presume it’s going to be a fair amount less than the 1-6 upgrade price else it would probably just say “Live 1-7 to Live 8 Upgrade” in mine? just be a real shame if u upgraded and then live9 sneaked out :stuck_out_tongue:

Even if it did you’d probably sell your license pretty easily for more than you paid to someone looking for a cheaper upgrade path - you could always do the lite >9 upgrade then with the spare cash
