Hello everyone,
I’m working on a midi-controller for a senior project as an electrical engineer. I just need help completing a required survey and would really appreciate the help. So please answer the following questions:

  • When and why do you use a midi-controller?
  • Walk us through a typical session using the product.
  • What do you like about existing midi-controllers?
  • What do you dislike about existing midi-controllers?
  • What issues do you consider when purchasing a midi-controller?
  • What improvements would you make a midi-controller?

1.I use a mc to control traktor ang give me better use of it. All the time.
2.thats a strange question. If u are asking what is a typical session like idk how to answer that…
3.i like that most existing controller are well built and controllers such as the x1 are premapped and u can become a costumed to it but also remap it to ur liking.
4. The price. And that there are no reasonably priced midi controllers that control the mixer within traktor. for example the a+h k2 is promising but it has no gross fader is a little small to mix without looking and has no row of leds that have no purpose besides indicating volume levels..

Thank you so much DJ Gringo. I just need four more people to answer this survey please. To clarify the one question it just means describe a typical time when you are using a midi-controller; what motions you go through as you use the device.

  1. I use a MIDI controller because it is the cheapest way for me to get into DJing. I use my X1 while practicing nearly every day. When gigging out I use an X1 and BCF 2000. This is because it’s easier to map the EQs and levels to the BCF than it is to constantly change pages on the X1, and so I can have access to both EQ and effects at the same time easily.

  2. Well, I normally open Traktor and go through my recently added and find some tracks I like. I will then use the controls on my X1 to use effects, cue juggle and EQ the song, before mixing into another.

  3. I like the functionallity, tactile response and LED feedback on my current controllers. I also like the current mapping functionality and how you can really make a controller your own through custom mappings and modding. I also like the current partnerships between hardware and software developers.

  4. Things I dislike… Ummm. I feel like the community isn’t being listened to in regard to new controller development. For instance, Native Instruments came out with the S2 when a large part of the DJ community was asking for something similar to 2 X1s and a mixer. I dislike the lack of community involvement in the majority of controllers. There are exceptions of course, Midi Fighter, K2. I also dislike the toyish look of a lot of all in one units. I want my controller to look professional and sturdy, not like it came out of a cereal box or was made my Fisher Price.

  5. I consider whether the controller will be supported with up to date drivers and support from software. I also look at build quality and read all the reviews I can find.

  6. I would remove jogwheels.

  1. Midi Control allows you to get creative with your technology to better your DJing skills and style. I use it for Digital DJing and for Music Production.

  2. Turn the power on, open the software app, check that all is working and then start playing!

  3. They look good, are fun to use and are breaking barriers.

  4. The fact that there is better technology out but is not being used. The build can be bad of some midi controllers and buggy.

  5. Quality, usability, look, form and function and whether it will cover my needs.

  6. I would and have put in better buttons and have modded 2 controllers into 1. Changing out the faders to better ones also has been done.

When and why do you use a midi-controller? - everyday for use with traktor.

Walk us through a typical session using the product. - walk in front door, kick both shoes of in different directions, head to my setup, turn on laptop, power up midi, fart, open traktor, realize I need a drink, pour a double, fart, squeeze in a quick ciggie, pour another double, realise I better say hi to the wife, burp & fart at the same time, convince the wife I wont spend all night playing music, pour a tripple, finaly make it to my setup, scratch my gonads, pick 1st track, pick 2nd track, need another drink, quick ciggie, back to setup, punch out a quick bong or two, forgot what I was doing, another drink I think, remember what I was up to but the wife says my time is up, have a ciggie and convince her I was only setting up, sneak back to room when she is not looking, fart, 1 last bong, turn on cruise, sync, push play, then jesus pose for the next hour.

What do you like about existing midi-controllers?- They make me a good dj
