Serato VS Traktor ?

Serato VS Traktor ?

Which one do you prefer and why ?

–DaanielK

I selected traktor Coz’ I’m drivin BMW

traktor cuz i like controller. ill eventually get decks and serato though

also: inb4threadlock

traktor. looks better and i dont need the SL box to use it like with serato

Traktor has a more robust FX selection although Serato seems to be catching up.

Traktor, because I don’t want to be affiliated with the assholes on the Serato forum.

I will say your barrage of questions probably would have been greeted with a little less help and patience on the Serato forums I think.

Serato because Traktor does way too much which makes the workflow way cluttered with things I don’t need.

this thread needs a poll

Whats a SL box ? Isnt it the box that connects to your Laptop , Turntables , Mic etc ?

–DaanielK

Both! Because they both work, traktor is good for long sets. Serato is awesome cuz its plug and play.

remember the picture you asked us about? well it was the thing that was colored in

if you use controllers, you can use Traktor without hardware. With Serato, you (more or less) can’t use controllers, it’s only for DVS, e.g vinyl simulation.
If you play quite simple, basically just mixing tracks without too much fancy MIDI stuff, Serato is best due to its minimalism. If you do lots of complicated manouvers like chopping up songs right on the fly, you’re gonna want to use Traktor.

Personally, I use Serato for long gigs where I need to be flexible, and Ableton live for shorter, more intense sets. Traktor sits in between these two ideologies.

Doesnt Traktor come with something like that but different ?

Like you can see with the box in the picture ?

Whats a MIDI controller and how does it work ?

–DaanielK

Put very simply, a MIDI controller is a device that controls your software of choice via MIDI message. The VCI 100 , for example, is a midi controller.

Edit: Here read the wiki MIDI - Wikipedia, and if you plan on using traktor, buy the Traktor Bible

SL box is in reference to the hardware that’s required to run Serato. Traktor doesn’t have this requirement. If you want traktor Scratch You will need an Audio 4 or an Audio 8 or a Traktor scratch certified mixer. I don’t recommend Traktor Scratch for you yet, maybe later, but not yet.

I prefer Serato because it’s simple and relaible.

He prefers Dos Equis.

he can play mp3s without any equipment too
