Serato vs Traktor.....

Serato vs Traktor…

aaaaaaannnnnnddd GO!!!

No, thank you.

Obviously a lot of thought went into starting this thread…

Traktor vs Serato - “Scratch DJ Live Pro Itch LE (Epic Proportions Flamewar Mashup)”

Personal. Preference.

One is not inherently better than the other. They both do certain things very well and comes down to preference.

My basic rule of thumb is I prefer Traktor for electronic music and I prefer Serato for doing turntablist/hip hop stuff. Again that is just my preference.

I’m curious about why. Can you elaborate?

Sure. I like the effects better in Traktor which I find I use more when playing Electronic and I prefer the waveforms in Serato. I find I have an easier time in Serato dissecting where to put cue points for tone plays and I like being able to “check my work” when doing juggles with the side by side waveforms.

Again I don’t mind using either/or but just some features I like about each that kind of apply to different genres I enjoy spinning.

If this thread turns into a flame war it will be closed. Keep it classy.

I’ve used both in depth, and prefer Serato (SSL not SDJ) by a long shot. Too much going on with the layout of Traktor, as well as SDJ. Both technology and simplicity are beautiful. But too much technology can be the absolute downfall of your creativity, be it hardware or software. Either way, use what “works” for “you” as a DJ.

for me it was accessibility. I was able to pirate Traktor and give it a spin before I decided to buy it.

fk that, Serato X Traktor thats what I am all about.

jk I am a Traktor guy just cause I am used to it. It really comes down to personal preference

My preference is Serato. I started with ITCH (based on a recommendation from a friend) , transitioned to SSL and then SDJ. I went to eventually try Traktor but it wasn’t for me. I had gotten so used to serato it felt like relearning to drive a car. I was impatient and stuck with serato. If you’re just starting out and truly can’t decide, flip a coin. You’ll love them both

Traktor was more economic for me that’s why I chose it. I needed a new mixer and the z2 was on sale for $599 at the time. It comes with Traktor pro 2 so compared to SSL,it was a bargain. For SSL, I would have to pay $499 just for the DVS, and I would still have to grab a new mixer. If SSL was better priced, I would have loved to get Serato bridge. TBH , since I’ve been getting into max/msp. I’m thinking of just getting http://mspinky.com . It looks like fun.
I haven’t spent much time with Serato since I used to work at a pro audio shop. That was back when NI had Final Scratch still. Given the choice of those two. It would be an easy choice of SSL due how glitchy FS was to install and register. I spent a whole week trying to get FS working on a customers laptop. Granted, that was around when vista was being released so it might not have been NI fault. However, NI tech support wasn’t very helpful until I escalated the problem to the top.

Coke, neither, off

The waveforms are much nicer on serato, thats why I have been using it for awhile.

Might go back to traktor tho as I recently bought a midi fighter and would like to midi map it up for finger drumming.

I chose Serato because I got the impression (possibly incorrect because I’ve never tried Traktor) that it was slightly better for scratching…more responsive I guess. Anyone out there scratch on Traktor?

There is no significant difference in timecode performance as far as I know; Qbert did a video comparison a while back.

Responsiveness depends on your latency settings for your sound card.

I don’t think there’s that much difference in latency to my knowledge. I’m not a turntabist but I saw a comparison by Dj Qberthttp://youtu.be/fTj-L7EKCL8

Didn’t the comparison in the end find that they both performed to perfection apart from Serato which started showing a little bit of artifact when it was pitched too slow?

I went for Traktor because I find it’s more versatile, the integrated controls you get with the NI controllers are second to none.

I have few gripes at the moment though, it’s getting a bit stagnant. It’s like NI have thrown it on the backburner whilst they focus on tablet apps. Wish they’d just make an announcement like “We are working on it” or “There’s something coming in September” or whatever.

I tried Serato DJ briefly, though it was a bit pants. SSL is still the king when it come to plug and mix simplicity though, dem side-by-side waveforms.
