Six Deck Mixing?

Six Deck Mixing?

What’re the chances of six-decks becoming a standard for DJing software? I’m surprised I haven’t seen it before. Is there a reason for that? I think it makes sense to have. For instance, if you’re working Traktor, you could have two remix decks, as well as 4 normal decks.

Chances of this becoming standard? 0%

IMHO.

A single remix deck provide 64 different slots for mixing whatever you want. Why in the world do you need TWO remix decks AND 4 standard decks? It would be so messy. What style of music are you mixing?

Just capture what you want from a track into a remix deck and trigger it as needed (no need to have a dedicated deck for that).

Yeah that’s an awful idea

i’m trying to find some positives to say in support of this. but i’m coming up blank.

i can see how things evolved to 4 decks - double ups/layering acapellas over tracks which would need a 3rd (or 4th deck) to mix out to a new track. but, yeah, if you getting to the point where you need six, it’s time to start playing with the remix decks a bit more.

Depends. There’s a difference between DJ’ing, and live performance/composing.

Look at acts like Tom Cosm, Moldover and iLL Gates. All using Ableton Live, and all using a minimum of 6 decks/channels.

So - where do you draw the line? When does it stop being DJ’ing, and start being performing?

VDJ let’s you open up 99 iirc

With Traktor Remix decks you have can 4 decks x 4 channels each so that’s 16.

I definitely get what the OP is saying. Many times I have had 4 decks running on traktor, and thought, ‘hmmm, if only there was another 1 or 2 decks, i could just do this, or that’.

I agree w/ @jdownesbaird - that it could become messy.

and w/ @Patch - that it’d cross the line of DJing and performing live, as you really would be creating your own stuff and looping like mad. I have never got into the Remix Decks, and this is something I would like to do. I just need to get an Kontrol F1. I’m a REAL fan of loops, loops and loads more loops.

I want traktor update like this - “just” make the loop recorder switch function to track deck, perfect. I’m pretty sure that would open some new mixing techniques and expand the possibilities of creative mappings.

With the loop recorder, does that actually enable us to record a loop from a track playing in a deck, and then if needed, put that recorded loop into a remix deck?

This action would require a loop recorder as a deck option, probably somewhere in the flux mode page. My thought is to create a toggle button function ‘LoopRec/Track Deck’ as a Loop Recorder update.

Ah, I see! Meh. So what does the loop recorded actually do then? I presumed it just recorded a loop of 4,8, or whatever, from the track you was playing… And then you could save that loop and drop it into a remix slot..

Yes, that’s what it does.

So why did @Stewe say that to do that it would require us to do mappings etc?

As previously stated, virtual DJ allows up to 99 decks, Here’s an example of the standard 6 deck mapping VDJ provide

Comes in at 2:50, followed by some questionable song choices.

To be honest, I used to go 4 track decks when I as showing off, but you have to find 4 tracks that work perfectly otherwise it sounds like mud. Now I just stick to two track decks and two remix decks. That’s more than enough for anything you could possible want to do. I think.

i’m confused. either i didn’t wait around long enough, or they didn’t need 6 decks in view? or 4 for that matter…

There is one deck in my setup that I use as a “support” mapping deck. I can press a knob and instantly duplicate a track to clone deck and map the EQ bend isolation for FX, filters, loops, hotcues, slicer etc. Or you just want that beat phase blink state when a deck is stopped? Many more options you can think of.

Sometimes I want a different drum sample to hit every 16 beats so I made a Remix Deck sequencer junior by using this mapping concepts. mapping clock info the cell trigger and also kill the lows on the corresponding deck.

I would def us the remix decks more if I could run them as 5th and 6th decks. At 180BPM, the need to use all four decks just for mixing can become necessity. I would love to be able to use the remix decks as samplers. I can see it as a way to expand what you are doing. As for the mixing 4 decks at a time in the remix decks, the 4 channels of the remix decks do not have their own eq’s. That seems a tad crazy.

hi ,on mac it s possible to open 2 traktor.app if you copie this one on other place in your computer one for 4 decks + one for 4 remix decks or 3 decks+1 rmx Deck 2 times

 when i play with my gear i’ve 4 traktor decks routed under the 4 inputs to maschine (provided for easy latency sampling record) by the way to ableton live ..4 traktor decks + 16 maschine decks +2 massive white noize + Fx + etc more than 24 decks xD
