yeah man, if your security is any good…they should have video cameras in the lobby of each dorm at least…then you can find out if someone walked out with all your shit, not many dorm guys will have a VCI im sure
never trust the guys you live with in dorms! not even your room mate
Sorry to hear that dude, my best mate had his entire University house cleaned out a few years back while we were on a night out once. Got back after a massive drum and bass gig and they had taken the computer me and him had made 5 years worth of music on, TV, stero, video games, microwave, all his girlf’s jewellery - they even took his iron?!? WTF
Anyway, it wasn’t even my stuff and it freaked me out so I feel for you man.
Its pretty gutting getting ripped off man . I’d not long had my flash car and in the space of a week it got vandalised.. (door kicked, mirrors broke) .. and not long after that, about 6k of import cd,s faceplate from my new headunit, the top of my gearknob and the fuckers even took my glade plugins from the dash, just to add insult to inury lol.
That really sucks. Do you have the serial numbers? File a police report and make sure you list all of the serial numbers on them along with any other identifiers. If you don;t have serial numbers go ahead and file a report listing any unique identifiers. The police aren’t going to go looking for your stuff, but if it does show up in a pawnshop you’ll need those numbers on that report to prove that it’s yours.
Go around to all the pawnshops now and look to see if any of it pops up, but if you don’t see it right away don’t give up hope. When you pawn something here in Texas you have three months to get it out of pawn, after that grace period it goes on the floor for sale. So start cruising the shops again after a few months has gone by.
If you find it don’t leave the shop. Call the police (not 911) and tell them you’ve found your stuff in a pawnshop, sure you have your police report number. They should come out and ID the stuff. The pawn shop will more than likely offer to sell you your stuff back to you for what they paid for it, but you don’t have to do that. If they didn’t give much for it you might go ahead and pay it to avoid even more wait. If you don’t pay it they’ll set a court date that you and the pawn shop have to show up for. More than likely the pawn shop will not show up, then you go by the shop and pick your stuff up.
Yeah file a report with the school and the local Police, thats over $600 in gear, thats no small crime.
I also advise you to invest in security cables to attach your gear to something solid when you’re not in your dorm. Or get a heavy duty tool box from Home Depot big enough to put all your gear and attach that to a radiator or bed post.
People suck, if it aint locked that will take it, I deal with that on a daily, since I also work for a school.
Sorry to hear that.
We should all insure all equipment and stuff.
There is a post on DJTT about which insurances are necessary from 2009 or early 2010.
