So many houses and one techno

Why is it there are so many sub-genres of house but everywhere I look there is one techno?

I guess what I’m trying to say is at my local store, it’s all labeled techno whereas house is labeled differently. Look at beatport and they too only have “techno” although I guess if you want to say trance and stuff is techno they do have that.

Any “sub-genre” that says “house” in the title is trendy.

“House” music (well, the trendy kind, anyway) is just one step away from the “EDM” label as far as I’m concerned. “XXX House” music fans are just one step trendier that proclaiming their love for “EDM”.

Now, I love me some house music, but, unfortunately, it has become a victim of it’s own success…

People that follow trends need labels to know what to buy.

I recently thought about coining the new term Crack House. Not sure what it’s gonna sound like, though.

It’ll sound amazing the first time you hear it, but over time, you’ll want to hear it more and more, until you you get to a point where you don’t even care how good or bad it is, you just have to get some.

Eventually, you’ll end up a wasted specimin of a raver.

Worst case scenario, Crack House is a gateway genre onto the even more destructive Smack House.

I totally agree with this and have been thinking this way since before they called the latest trendy dance music “edm”.

back when I was a kid house music simply meant it came from Chicago and Techno meant it came from Detroit with both cites outputting similar sounds.

Honestly I didn’t even think Detroit techno was a term used for any new music, and dub techno I’ve never even heard of. I’m getting too old, or at least my knees are for the the goa/psytrance I love and thinking I should move into more deeper psy leaning techno but I’m new to techno tracks

Detroit techno is more geographical but tends to be more synth heavy ala Mad Mike Banks. so much music comes out of Detroit it gets it’s own genre. The Underground Resistance crew still puts out some great stuff!

Dub Techno is like Basic Channel, there’s some good stuff out there. Deeper music.

Minimal tends to be blips and bleeps and crosses over with house music to a degree.

there’s some great stuff out there for sure.

I’ve started spinning a new genre called where?house. There’s no beatmatching. There’s a lot of silence in between records as I’m still digging trying to find “that one song I know is in here somewhere.”

There really are only 2 types of house music:

  1. My House, and;
  2. Our House

Although, after you enter My House, it then BECOMES our house, so, technically, there is only ONE house…
