Hello I am usually used to spinning dubstep but i actually tried spinning what I believe is House or Techno…I honestly don’t know what the difference between them is am really sorry haha but I like them both.
Anyways I really like these genres because I like being able to actually combine songs together and sometimes even have 2 songs and vocal loops on a 3rd deck. Dubsteps not really like that, 2 songs and they have be mixed during certain quieter parts.
ANYWAYS!!! I keep getting of track…the only thing is is I don’t know that many songs I need some artists to form a foundation so I can’t start finding more songs I like. I personally enjoy the kinda that have raw, deep, and kind of that powerful sweep sounds for the drops and what not.
I really like Deadmou5 cause they are like that but I cant just spin Deadmou5 all the time, and I don’t wanna spin songs people have heard that is no fun. If you have any artists you like to recommend besides Skrillex please do. I am falling in love with these genres and I want to be droven into the right direction. : )
Beatport Progressive and Tech house sections are a good place to start, listen to the tracks in the relevant chart categories and see what you like.
Beta Beatport also has lots of recommended and “customers also purchased” sections at the bottom of the page if you click on a track. This is a good place to start.
Look up some stuff on Beatport under the labels Toolroom records or Spinnin records. Some good house/tech is released under these labels i find.
Someone once said house is getting computers to make music that sounds like it has real instruments in it and techno sounds like music made on computers that sounds like it was made on computers.
Might have been a major player in the industry or just 1 of my mates on a pill up adventure though.
The day that house and techno are the same thing is the day i die. Just fuck off with the MC’s at techno festivals nowadays, i think i’m gonna bring my tazer next time. “Put your motherfucking handz uuppp” BRAAARGH
Even more important to try and describe the elements of the music that you are attracted to then if unable to identify which of the myriad new microgenres they fall into!
"One is the music with the straight Bumm Bumm Bumm Bumm. And the other the music with the straight Bumm Bumm Bumm Bumm, with a diva singing "Release Me ".
Right. And also the instruments used, the chord progressions and melodies, the obvious foundation in older music that each one follows or doesn’t, just how repetitive each is or isn’t, general track structure, and mixing style. That being said, the first Techno tracks weren’t supposed to be Techno…they were just supposed to be House with a harder edge that felt more like Detroit or New York than Chicago.
Example:
But, frankly, if the OP likes Deadmau5, this discussion is moot. He probably doesn’t like House or techno…he likes the slowed-down, rebranded progressive/epic trance with slightly fewer epic saws and less uplifting pads that people now call progressive house for some reason. Also, electro…which is probably what he means when he discusses the more techno side of things.
Yeah, pretty much, though I can think of techno tracks that borrow elements you mention from house and vice versa. It’s a pretty blurred line that becomes easier to distinguish the more of it you listen to until it’s easily quantifiable without even thinking about it. Tracks just sound like house or techno to your ears.
Yes, yes, 100 times yes. Kids these days, get off my lawn, etc.
Man, I loved epic trance back in the day (I’m, like ssoooooo indie…'er something). And I enjoy some modern “progressive house.” It’s really just the term that bugs me, 'cuz I really enjoy me some good progressive…and it’s kind of lost its genre name to modern over-the-top prog house that sounds–to my ears–like trance or electro…more so than older electro sounds like modern electro.
It’s really just the terminology that annoys me. I’ve had fun spinning every genre mentioned in this thread at one point or another.
I play tech house, tribal, house, techno and some artists to look out for is:
Carlo Lio
Victor Calderone
Dubfire
Adam Beyer
Paul Ritch
Paco Osuna
Alan Fitzpatrick
Davide Squillace
Adam Port
Stacey Pullen
Ali - (Tiefschwarz)
Wehbba
Samuel L Session
Joris Voorn
Gary Beck
Basti - (Tiefschwarz)
Shlomi Aber
Not sure about anyone else here but this is techno to me
Ps befor anyone jumps on me I know there are other styles etc but in my eyes we need more stuff like this. Even the old techno jocks producers I used to love have all adopted this clean minimal sound bring back some percussive dirty techno and forgot sake up the pace … All my opinion only
