I really want to make sure that if I were to get an S4, it would work with the speakers I normally use.

So the S4 can provide balanced TRS, yes? So if I want to get a balanced signal to a pair of speakers, it would work fine just to use a standard trs cable? Or would I need to get a trs-xlr male adaptor before connecting to the speakers?

Now, if I were to use two TRS cables, one to each speaker, would I want to use balanced/shielded cables, or mono/unshielded cables?

The story is I really like the functionality of the S4 over Denon’s MC6000, but Denon gives the xlr outputs.

You would get balanced one balanced TRS cable per speaker with no XLR adapters unless you only have XLR connections on your speakers. If they have TRS connections then XLR adapters are not needed.

What your asking is totally Dependant on what inputs your speakers have?

xlr or 1/4jack(balanced)?

the signal is hotter from the balanced trs outputs of the s4 than the rca outputs.
