Sounds won't come from Serato

Sounds won’t come from Serato

Just got my DDJ SX-2 today, and it comes with the Serato full version. I don’t understand why I can’t hear anything when I am on my Serato, but I can hear it right from itunes. Is there anything wrong with my setup? I can hear the sound from nowhere, neither the laptop or the speaker. It just won’t show from the Serato software, only when I input my laptop to controller, otherwise it works. I’ve also put the volume on max. What should I do? and does it have something to do with the controller too? or should is it just the software?

sorry, i don´t understand that.

I never used Serato or that controller, but I guess it´s your audio output routing that´s driving you mad.

Serato will route the audio through your controller (and not through your laptop´s onboard sound card).
Make sure your speakers/stereo are/is plugged into your controller (and not to your laptop)?

first time owning a controller so.. its a bit frustating for me. every cable is plugged right to the controller, only thing plugged to my laptop is the usb cable connecting it to sx2. i can tell that its actually like the controller blocking the software to produce sounds, and it doesnt show on speaker, neither on laptop itself. what kind of route should be changed? i feel like following the manuals so far.

dudes, seriously. i need help

dude, maybe say whats you computer specs, post screenshots from Serato settings, say how you connect speakers to the controller etc.

for now we just know you own a DDJ-SX2, computer and a speaker (one speaker?)

Ok, let’s take it back a few steps. Is the crossfader in the middle and are the linefaders and master volume on the controller up? There’s more to it than just the volume in Serato itself.

here guys, i am really sorry for not providing enough informations since i don’t really know how to explain it. here’s a screenshot of it being played and the sound doesnt come by the time. once i eject the usb cable between my mac and sx2, i can hear the sound once more. i hope it helps a little.

i understand that the controller might be too complicated for a total newbie. and yes, the crossfader is in the middle, volumes up too.

Have you actually read the manual of your SX2? I own a DDJ-SR and the manual is readable for anybody (who can read of course ). You may just have missed a step somewhere.

i try not to use speaker and start with only headphone and sound from my laptop. here, bundled usb cable from controller to laptop, and i connect my controller to the power and thats it. its pretty hard to describe it man

i did. everything worked except the sound. i dont get it why its muted only when i connect them both. is it possible to use bluetooth speaker instead. i have a weird speaker, it comes with 2 speakers but only one cable connecting them both.

I know what the problem is. You want to hear music from the laptop instead of the controller, right? Once your controller is connected the soundcard from the controller takes over the sound. You then need to connect the controller’s sound output to speakers or an amplifier. Serato has no option to choose routing.

okay, i see that coming. i tried both of them actually and it still didnt work even to the speaker, as i mentioned the speaker is pretty old and i don’t know if its still functioning. i have another speaker which requires bluetooth connection. i tried using it too and, well, as expected i cant play any sound on serato but just on itunes. its like something is blocking the access from serato and controller to produce any sound.

I think you just need a new pair of speakers to be honest.

i will consider the speaker later on. but is it actually possible to get the sound from the laptop for the main sound and headphone for mix? no speaker at all. i know about the quality, but i can only get my pair of speakers next month. or is the bluetooth speaker actually available on it?

It is possible, but not on Serato and via a lot of trouble (virtual midi cables). Seriously, don’t even attempt it. The bluetooth speaker won’t work as it will only connect to your laptop soundcard.

okay man, before moving to the speaker topic. can i explain it a little bit? the sound doesnt even come on the laptop too, even though i ejected the speaker controller cable. the only sound i can hear is the headphone. thats it. is it actually a trouble that the sound is not even available on my laptop?

No, you cannot hear your main sound if you don’t use speakers. It might be possible to use RCA to 3.5mm -cable from controller to your computers line in. Then you would have to use a recording software to monitor what’s feeded. Of course this way there would be significal audio lag and actual DJ’ing would be nearly impossible.

You could also buy a BT transmitter and hook it to your main out RCA’s, but there would be audio lag also.

You could ask from your friends/parents/relatives if anyone has an old stereo set (amplifier/receiver+speakers) they could borrow/give you. You need only one input (aux/video/cd/line/etc) to hook your controller.

I know what you mean, but that’s exactly the way it’s supposed to be. You can select one (1) soundcard and the sound will go through there. Your laptop and headphone output on the SX2 are on different soundcards.

i am sorry dude. can you explain how should i connect them through the soundcard. but the controller itself comes with a built soundcard right? thanks.

i have a fender amplifier for electric guitar. is it possible to use it? if not, then i dont have any other choice than getting a speaker.
