Thoughts?
My initial thought was “beautiful.” My second thought was, “possible 43C in the future?”…
Xone 93 would be nice.
And I just bought the 23.

I like the minor layout changes… although unless there are major internal changes i could not see an upgrade. I use a 62 myself, i would love to see a 63 be released… maybe thats next
they dropped the USB channel…why?

Unusual lack of main unbalanced output (RCA) on the freakishly empty back side. Also, what’s with the short 45mm(guessing) upfaders?

Xone has done XLR out for as long as I’ve owned them. Much better than an RCA out in my opinion. Their booth out is RCA though.

Ugly new faceplate for the 42 and not much more. The few minor changes are only so-so (positive: 2 more phono-preamps, aux-channel instead of the stupid soundcard; pointless: bigger dry-wet knobs for the FX loop, I mean, srsly?; negative: 3 fixed settings for the crossfader curve instead of a knob). A big no thanks on my part.
For €899 I think you’re better off getting a used (or new?) Xone 92.

Same as almost every other manufacturer - but that’s not the point i’m trying to make.
It makes sense to include unbalanced main output (be it RCA or 1/4") on gear that’s not top of the line since it will mostly be hooked to amps/speakers near the mixer and very often will be consumer amps/speakers. It seems silly to remove it as a cost saving measure.
And since you mentioned booth out, I’ve seen a lot of powered PA (that’s mostly used as booth monitoring) that don’t have RCA’s. You might even say that it would make more sense for booth outputs to be balanced (XLR or at least 1/4").
I totally agree on the booth out, I wish these came with 1/4" booth outs. I’d be in heaven.
So is the 43 geared towards the turntables/vinyl crowd? Would I notice the difference in sound quality compared to a DJM 900?
I wouldn’t say that it’s just a different layout. It’s styled from the DB mixer series. Honestly to most can’t tell the difference including me, but Xones are said to be more of a warm sound. Filters on the other hand are lightyears better than Pioneers.
Just bought a 42 last month and my first reaction was : just my luck, when I finally get around to buying a higher end mixer they upgrade it. but then I took a good look and I just stoppen caring. purely aesthetic the 42 has a much more pleasing look imo, because looks > all the rest right. but looking at the build of the unit, I don’t question it’s sturdiness or anything but I really like the big push buttons on the 42 and no on off buttons for the crossfader is a feature I never knew I would love until I bought my little tank. pass.
A&H tends to use little strips or cards when building their mixers, so the inside of those machines are nice and tidy and very pretty to look at lol. also makes modding easier, because modding analog gear = awesome…
