Thinking about selling my Pioneer HDJ 2000’s and getting…

Hey guys, well yes its true, I’m thinking about selling my Pioneer HDJ 2000’s.

Crazy right?

Well here’s why…

I’ve had them for almost a year, and I do love them, but over these months I’ve started to notice a few things which is really starting to bother me..

  1. They get very heavy after playing a few hours.
  2. They hurt my ears from the inside of the cup after playing a few hours.

So these are the 2 issues that bother me, especially when I’ve been using them for a long time. They get heavy around my neck, and they also bother me when I use them for basic everyday use. They also start to hurt my ears, and after a few hours I actually can’t wear them anymore, and take them off.

Now this is turning into a deal breaker for me. So I’ve been looking into other options and the TMA’s and HD 25’s came up. Now I’ve tried the TMA’s and found them a little loose for my head. They sounded great and very comfortable but I was worried about them moving on my head when I’m playing. Now the HD 25’s I’ve heard fit tighter than the TMA’s which is good news for me, and we’ve all read about their quality etc…

So now I’m considering selling my HDJ 2000’s and getting a pair of the HD 25’s. The only thing I’m concerned about is their comfort. Are they very comfortable especially for long gigs? I’ve never had the chance to try them so I’ll be going by reviews and opinions. Have any of you owned both cans, can you give any feedback about it?

If they will be a more comfortable fit, then maybe this is what I’ll be doing. Good bye Pioneer hello Sennheiser!

Thanks in advance guys. Cheers.

Have you considered in ear monitors? More than a few users here do, or are considering them (me being one of them). They’re obviously lighter, in most cases isolate better so that you don’t have to crank the db’s and save your ears. I know it doesn’t look as snazzy as rippin a choon with your monster cans, but it seems as though it may be right up your alley.

Amazon has klipsch x10’s for 120 bucks or so right now.

These be in my Christmas list

Yeah I’ve considered them. I actually saw Laidback Luke wearing IEM at Ultra this last weekend.

I’m not sure though it I want to take that route as I’m more of a traditional DJ, and like the idea of a DJ using DJ headphones. But it is something I’ll think about. Thanks.

Someone somewhere, not here, mentioned that HD25 has a bit too rigid cussions but something can be done to the to make them softer. (if anone knows, I too would like to hear)
Apart from that, they should be quite comfy, especially if you find TMA1 to be a bit loose (which means your head is not very large/wide).
Event if HD25 are too grippy, you can still stretch them by leaving them stretched overnight or something similar.

If you buy the Senns you will never look back. Trust me.

If you weren’t in South Africa I would offer to trade deal on some HD25’s.

Is there a market for 2nd hand headphones?

I wouldn’t want to wear 'phones that someone else had used, and I DEFINITELY wouldn’t want someone to wear my sweaty ass 'phones after me!

Odd, I find them incredibly comfortable for extended periods. The senns my get tight, depending on your head.

No problem! I understand completely.

Never heard about that before…

Heard that before!

Well I’m not in SA at the moment, actually in Brazil, but yeah I know what you mean. It would be a good deal. Too bad Chris.

Lulz..

Well they are comfortable, but only for short periods of time, like quick mix sessions at home etc, but for long gigs, and long periods of time, they get heavy, and bulky, and hurt my ears from the inside of the cup pressing on my ear.

Going to think I am funny but the most comfortable headphones are still the trusty Sony MDR 7506’s studio monitors. They are cheap, light, sound great and most of all they are comfortable. I have tried others but can’t find any others that feel the same. Can be bought for under $100.00

Yeah…7506 and HD25s are my favorite headphones. The HD25s win out for me, but they also cost twice as much and were a gift.

If you’re looking for pure comfort, the 7506s are hard to beat. The HD25s sound better to my ears, but they do feel weird because they sit on top of your ears instead of around them. Mine are also old enough that the pads have come off the headband (and i’m too lazy/cheap to replace them) so they bug the top of my head after a while…but it’s also been like 4 years since I replaced the headband.

I use HD-25 Mk IIs, and while I haven’t tried the Pioneers, I assume they’re supraural like the Senns? If your earlobes are sensitive to long-term pressure and start to hurt because of that, the HD-25s will be no better for you.

You should look for closed back circumaural headphones, where the cans won’t put any pressure on your earlobe. And of course, circumaural cans are even bigger and even more old school.. I quite liked the AKG K271 Mk II for studio work, but they might not be to every DJ’s liking for tonal balance.

My 7506’s are more comfortable on my ears than my HD25’s. I still prefer the HD25’s mostly because of weight I think.

HD2000’s are circumaural.

Well as far as I know the Pioneer’s are over ear and that Senn’s are on ear. I’m not familiar with the correct terms, but thats the main difference. My thinking is if after long term use, and gigs, from over ear headphones then maybe on ear ones would be more comfortable.

I’ve also heard that the Senn’s are very comfortable after long term use.

Anything over 4 hours of constant wear and the senns hurt my ears.

You have both the TMA’s and the Senn’s if I’m not mistaken hey Chris?

Which ones fit more comfortably or tightly on your head? Not to say your head is the same size as mine, but just to give some more insight into their fit.

Have you ever tried out the Pioneer’s?

I have a hint that maybe on ear headphones like the Senns might feel a lot more comfortable after long hours of use compared to the Pioneer’s plus they much lighter.

I wish I knew someone close by that had a pair for me to try, and compare… :open_mouth:

I had the HD25’s for a while man and they just were too tight. Clamping pressure was too much for me. But a lot of other ppl love the feel and so I think it totally depends on your head and what you like.

Honestly dude if you found the Pioneer’s which are circumaural to hurt your ears, I don’t think the Senn’s will be any better and actually think it might be worse! But that’s just my two cents bro.

I’m personally about to buy the Sony v6’s

Headphones are something that is totally personal. Person A might LOVE a certian headphone yet person B cant stand them.
Headphones are no different than a pair of pants or a jacket. If i wear size 32 jeans that fit me perfectly and styled the way i like mean that the person who is 230lbs should wear the same jeans?

At the end of the day its all about you and what you like.

The only exception to the rule here is if you wear any Dr. Dre Beats while Djing…you will look like the douche bag wearing the Ed Hardy shirt 2 sizes to small for him.

Well I’m hoping that being a different size ear cup, and being much lighter, they will feel more comfortable for me.

I’m still undecided about it though..

Yeah you right man, I think I need to try and find someone that has a pair to compare them, but here where I am, its gonna be very difficult.

LMAO! Agreed!
