this guy is dead on (vinyl vs controllers)

this guy is dead on (vinyl vs controllers)

i really don’t want to flare up the debate again, but this guy hits the nail on the head..

quite enjoyed that vid.

I have a new hero

ugh this guy annoys me and I really don’t care to listen to him

hopefully someone will just close this thread before the clusterfuck

to be fair this thread will only needs closing if we get the usual dicks stoking the fire. no need to shut down if the thread just gets treated for what it is… a youtube vid that some people may or may not enjoy watching!

I agree…that guy is annoying. He’s saying shit I’ve heard over and over.

He’s just bitching about people bitching. lol

If you get paid to DJ somewhere then you go and DJ live, not play a recording. If you arnt gonna do it live then you may aswell send a cd and not even turn up.

This dude sums It all up perfectly.

The term I fucking hate - Controllerist

I’ve seen this video in like 3 different places…can’t believe its gotten that big haha, I’ve seen about 8 of these rants already…its just so ironic that he posted a video and bitched about ppl bitching

@BFLY With you on that!!

Yeah kinda agree but it does at least seperate people who use digital stuff

You got people who just mix like they would on decks - digital dj’s
Then you got the loons who jump about waving their gear like a rock star, cue jumping and all that - controllerists

I’m glad they’re seperate because I ain’t no controllerist - and I gladly tell people that…

It’s fun to play with everything I do it i dont care how people call it I just make love to mi s4 like i do to my girlfriendsometimes hard sometimes slow
wajajaja

This guy is all over the place…

too long winded, I stopped caring after 30 seconds.

If anyone thinks he is simply bitching about people bitching, you completely missed the point of the video and probably are one of the people he is bitching about.

Even so, he is right.

Performers in the electronic music scene (be they DJs, Controllerists, Turntableists, whatever) do in fact like to belittle others in the scene based upon what medium you use to perform.

Why is this?

Because we all do pretty much the same thing. Mix music. (unless you produce your own stuff, but then this really wouldn’t apply to you)

They think:

“How can I make myself look better than the other guy? By applying arbitrary attributes that me and my group of friends value over others!”

Namely CD’s vs Vinyl vs. Controllers.

They don’t strive to be better at their craft, because it’s easier to dismiss the other guy for (again) an arbitrary reason that people can bandwagon up on to elevate their social status in “the scene”.

Another unfortunate factor but an absolute truth is it doesn’t matter how skilled you are on any device.

It’s all about who you know.

You can be the greatest musician on the planet, but if you don’t have a lot of resources (i.e. money, knowledge, and gasp connections) you will never “make it” (if that is your goal), as it were.

There are a lot of media snobs here in Detroit. It took a long time for people to adapt to tech like CD tables, let alone things like Serato and Traktor. If you use an instrument that isn’t deemed “real” or “true to it’s roots” you can easily get shunned by the community.

TL;DR:
I agree with the guy in the video,
too many people are snobbish about electronic music.
People should focus on consistently improving their skills to better themselves, for themselves rather than worry about what the other guy is doing.

quoted for importance

legit.

i’m tired of douche bags that fall under this

I saw this today and was gonna post it up here, someone beat me to it :disappointed:

I agree with the dude, people really put way too much emphasis on the medium you use to spin. My brother uses a controller, I use CDJs, and I’ve worked with turntablists that had a DVS setup. And all of them are a ball to work with. I really don’t understand the hate; people at gigs don’t give a shite how you’re playing the music, why should other DJs?
