TIL: Skrillex was in an emo band

OK so I missed the whole emo thing.

well… rather I avoided it so I guess I missed this band.

old news to some of you. but if youre an old fuck like me. Then youll trip on this one.

I’m pretty sure is still is in an emo band, or at least, still IS an emo band :stuck_out_tongue:

He still is pretty emo to me, he just makes hardcore emo dubstep.

Over here across the pond, more and more emo fellows are moving from horrible screamo metal to dubstep.
Don’t ask me why, but hell if it isn’t an improvement.

i know him from that time…kinda liked this band a bit. not a fanboy but i had it on my ipod, since metal/hc/screame blablabla are my roots

skrillex=from first to last (ha!)

jfk from mstrkrft= death from above 1979

electro ftw!

I can’t stand his voice.

I’ve often joked after going to dance @ arena out here (very popular 18+ electro club) that electro kids were all just scene kids looking for something fashion compatible with their body mods and haircuts.

its bizzare as hell to start to see things that make me go “whoa, i was totally right about that one”

O! Another one is,

Joe Goddard from Hot Chip = The 2 Bears (a sick new house group)

whats TIL?

Today I Learned

Typical that the answer came from a dude with a windows flag as his avatar…

umm dont derail the thread.

I’ll get it back on track then.

Yes, I knew Sonny Moore (AKA Skrillex) was in the screamo band FFTL (From First To Last) - I thought everyone did because of all the hype straight after he dropped his most recent EP. Everyone was like “OMG. Who is Skrillex?!” and then they were like “OMG. He is an emo kid from a famous screamo band!”

Btw, From First To Last is dead i believe. so I guess he WAS in the band

no, its because he is part of mau5 trap. thats why there was so much hype.

Norman Cook Before B.A.D & Fatboy Slim

My band actually opened up for FFTL a few years ago, Sonny is a nice guy.

And let me say something here.

I just bought his EP

Wow thats high production value. That kid really knows whatever software hes using.

He’s much better at it than Joel is. (now watch I’ll find out Joel’s secretly making these tracks. would totally be my luck lol).

It’s a great EP though I’m really impressed. Normally I avoid Mau5trap like the plauge but, recent events have made me open my music selections even more. I’ll throw in anything I can make work and make badass at this point. fuck genres =p

Today I learned what TIL means.

“He’s much better at it than Joel is. (now watch I’ll find out Joel’s secretly making these tracks. would totally be my luck lol).”

I think mau5trap is a crazy monopoly. One mastermind genius creating an army of DJ’s. I mean one DJ can only get so popular. If you have a whole team of different DJ’s then you’re guaranteed to elevate higher than one individual. I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Steve Duda is a huge contributor (if not the only) of synth design for deadmau5/mau5trap. Feed Me, Skrillex, and Deadmau5 are all on some next level (albeit similar) synth sounds. Feed Me and Skrillex pretty much popped outta nowhere. I know that the development those crazy Reese’s and other insane synth sounds don’t just happen over night. It would take a long time to develop the skills it takes to produce these crazy tracks, yet their first EP’s were sensational. LOL That’s my conspiracy theory and I’m sticking to it. And let me just say if this isn’t this case, that this would be a very lucrative (though slightly deceptive) business scheme.

Indeed. It makes sense. That really would be pretty crazy. But then you have to imagine how it all started - did Joel come up to them and was like “I’m going to make you a star” or was it more “You’re good, but what if I told you I have the secret to the craft, you just have to sign on and let me produce behind scene with your original work.”

Makes you wonder, but oh well. Personally, I like Skrillex. Joel, not so much. But its more about the music than anything. So if one day I find out that Joel was making parts of the songs - meh, no big deal.

it wouldn’t suprise me if that were the case. joel started was a fan of and started out producing d&B. and didn’t he start producing 'step tracks last year or the year before?

im sure this practice has been happening for years in the production of EDM. i’ve seen quite a lot of mix cd’s over the years that aren’t mixed by the person who’s name is on the cover.. if you read through the liner notes you’d see shit like “this cd was mixed by (insert name/company here) using tracks selected by (insert artist on covers name here) using sony acid software” or something to that effect.

german dj steve murano didn’t produce any of the tracks with his name on it. all his tracks were made by jens meiwald and tobias fiedler, although this was never a hidden fact. they are doing something similar now with lucca too i believe.

…then there’s the whole david guetta thing
