To all of you complaining that the dubstep scene isn’t what it used to be
Every once in a while on the internet (DJTT included) I see these people complaining on how the dubstep scene changed the last decade. If you count yourself among these people I have something to say to you.
Last night I went to a dubstep party (like I tend to do every couple of weeks) and I just want to describe the atmosphere there.
The booth: Not separated from the crowd in any way, you could look over the DJ 's shoulder. Technics 1200 at the ready. There were also CDJ-1000s but they saw a lot less action.
The crowd: Not a single frat boy in sight. However there was one douchebag that insulted my friend once because he had long hair. But for the most part really cool “alternative” people. Loads of weed though, but you won’t hear me complaining about that.
The music: To give you a rough idea, there was a lot of older skream, coki, mala, digital mystikz played.
If I had stepped into a time machine I would have assumed I was in London in 2004 but actually I was in Leuven in 2012. So people complaining about the artist who must not be named or anything similar or if you post the picture below in threads, please for the love of god, stop your bitching.
TL;DR: Read it all or don’t bother, have a nice day.
I’m probably one of “those” people who complain, but I’ve been to similar parties as well, and it was great. But, a lot of them have been plagued by 18-year olds who came there cause they wanted to hear Brostep, that get shitfaced real early, start moshing violently and generally makes life poor for everybody else.
+1… Where I am pretty much the only dubstep being played is the shitty brostep (though there is one DJ who usually warms up for the brostep guys who will sneak in some old classics early in the night). That said there is still a scene for the deep stuff and the old stuff cause it’s still be made, it’s just a hell of a lot harder to find in North America.
Personally im just fed up of the constant debate about dubstep, its just become tiresome…whether its new vs old or people complaining about skrillex, this forum sees enough of it.
It all depends on who is throwing the party, and what vibe the are going for. What they get their promoters to focus on bringing in, and who they book and what they are asked to play.
Anything can be anywhere. I’ve seen the same night at a club be a hipster’s wetdream, and then the next week be a college freakout.
Just a matter of figuring out what you want to go out for.
And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou put on the Holy Needle. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Drop of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
Basicly the whole point of this thread is just me wanting to say “Your argument is invalid”
and not necessarily get a discussion going that is just like the 1000 discussions that proceeded it.

Exactly.
I’m more a brostep guy than a “real” dubstep listener. I don’t enjoy these deep wub wub wub.
Still, last night I went to see Feed Me + others guests at a club in Paris. Moombahton/core warmup was nice, first 30 mins of one of the guests were nice too, then it started to get violent. After 1h of violent moshing when i was more busy about “protecting” one of my friend (girl) (you’ve obviously know what i mean. Creating an undestructible circle using the “fence” in the front row and your arms…) than enjoying the music, we stepped back from the first rows.
It was SO crowded and violent that we decided to leave around 3AM, ending not seeing Feed Me, which was the purpose of the party.
I’m seriously considering not going to clubs anymore unless I’m behing the decks. (or at least not for brostep parties, even though brostep is part of my favorites genre, along with “hard” electro and moombahcore)
I like deeper dubstep and brostep. Though i do think that people are getting ignorant of where the roots are, it pisses me off when people are like “Skrillex is da king of da dubstepz!” like half of his music isn’t even dubstep. I do like skrillex’s music put he should tell his fans to stop giving our nice deep dubstep a bad name. Also all you old-schoolers seem to think that us teenagers only listen to brostep. That’s narrow minded, here in france me and some friends managed through a couple of partys in some fields (I don’t think i should say “raves” cause it was darkstep and dubstep and there was only like 300 people) to convert practically the whole school over to dubstep, except theres no brostep listeners. My english might be bad, i’m french. It’s a fucking awesome school now
Wow this really blew up !
After all this was just an answer to “OMG, skrillex ruined dubstep” “Fuck you, good dubstep died in 2008” “Fucking retarted teens won’t recognize good music when it’s right in their faces”
I just wanted to state that this is not the case and just say that not all dubstep lovers,17 year olds like me or not, are like “Oh Em Gee, where 's the drop hurr durrr”
BUT more importantly, this is also not me hating on “brostep” as many people call it, I fucking love some doctor P tracks and hell there are even some tracks by skrillex that I can enjoy.
