“Trap for the masses” - What is that exactly?
I looked it up and it says it is Southern Style rap that you listen to in jail (THE TRAP).
What the hell is this ?:

Looks like trap is a type of southern style hiphop that a bunch of EDM producers have all of the sudden jumped on.
"Thus it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that trap is having it’s moment as a signifier of rugged authenticity for young, mostly white, electronic music producers. Searching through SoundCloud, there’s thousands of tracks labeled “trap” and “trap music.”
Houston-born, Berlin-based producer Lōtic isn’t impressed. Club kids drawing on the sounds he grew up with doesn’t bother him, exactly. It’s just that, to his ears, most of these so called “trap” tracks are soulless, saccharine approximations of the latest Top-40 trap street hustler hit."
Southern rap with some big bass.
Like Xone said a lot of electronic music producers have picked it up and some DJ’s that normally play bass music have started to pick it up.
I’m enjoying some of it. A lot of it is “soulless” but it just reminds me of some good party music from the late 90’s. Mixes well with the whole UK Bass thing going on right now.
this is pretty good:

Thanks man. TRAP FOR THE MASSES !!!
subscribed for curiosity
Three songs into the original posters soundcloud link, which I’m enjoying, there was tons of break beat tracks around 96 that had this feel. Not quite florida funky breaks and not electro, but would get squeezed into a florida breaks set. I was a fan of it, the best set I heard of this really thin form of breaks was from DJ Ani from Dee-Lite. Glad to hear that other people have picked up the torch as it makes some serious post 3am noise.
Man, I fucking love DJTT sometimes.
I’ve been on a trap kick for a little bit. I still have yet to mix it, but it’s growing in popularity. It had some presence at Starscape a couple weeks back, and I’ve heard it’s growing big from the south. Living in New England, I haven’t heard it out much. There’s one local DJ whom I’ve heard drop some of it, but no one else really.
I’m really adoring it honestly. Good trap is good. It’s something that’s still extremely bass heavy, even so much as I’ve shown a couple tracks to people from soundcloud that I adore, and they didn’t get it. And when I asked what they were listening on? Laptop speakers. And all I could say was, you’re missing 75% of the song lol.
Here’s a few tracks I’ve really been digging lately:

I’ve basically spent the past week or so really trying to get my finger on this. It’s still so fresh, there’s not a lot out there. But I have a strong feeling that there will be some growth in this sub-genre. It just feels like it would flow really well with that new kind of Moombah sound, and it’s different enough from Dubstep but still super bass heavy that it may pull some heads in.
A lot of it sits in the 130-145 BPM range as well, so it’s fairly well mixable with a lot of tracks just on the tables, not having to do any funky transition work to get yourself there.
And from what I’ve been able to tell? This is the newest iteration of booty poppin’ music.
This is going places folks, and super happy that there is a thread started about it here ![]()
Interesting… not exactly my taste though, but I love the (new?) thread title ![]()
Ok I been listening to lots of this lately, turns out I just had no idea what it was called. Gooooood thread.
I play all formats of music but as of late i’ve been playing mostly trap on my Saturday night residency. My so called “Top 40” club goers eat it up.
That HudMo tune is rad. Liking this shit eh.
This is basically that Rihanna song “Birthday Cake”. It reminds me of that southern style hip hop… which is what made me really start hating it.
Yeh. TNGNT is actually both Hud and Lunice. They just came out with this project.
what is “this”?
