Twister Looper

Twister Looper – a looping workstation built around the MIDI Fighter Twister

Hey everyone,

As a new user, I apparently can’t upload attachments yet—could an admin please enable this for my account so I can share the project files here?

I’ve been building Twister Looper, a project for Windows and Ableton Live 12 Suite that puts the MIDI Fighter Twister at the centre of a complete looping setup.

The idea is simple: record something, bring in existing clips, reshape the groove and perform with it—all from one interface, with the Twister giving you useful feedback under your hands.

What’s inside:

  • Four independent loop players, each with selectable inputs, volume, clip gain and stereo meters before and after the effects.

  • Four clip slots per player for keeping variations ready. Drag clips between slots, bring files in from the browser and drag your results back into Ableton.

  • An integrated waveform editor with movable loop boundaries, cue points, grid snapping, zoom and endless jog control. Shorten phrases, shift their timing or build polyrhythms.

  • Pitch and tuning controls with Sync, Master/Slave operation, half/double speed, Key Lock and independent semitone transposition.

  • 31 internal effects plus three DJ filter types, selectable per slot, with encoder-push functions and several signal-routing options.

  • External FX mapping for both encoder rotation and push, including parameter names, values and matching LED-ring feedback.

  • Separate headphone cueing, session saving, Quick Saves and a browser with favourites.

The controller has four software banks: LOOPS → FX INT → FX EXT → CLIPS. Native Mode handles the colours and LED rings, while active transport functions pulse with the beat. The interface remains usable without the controller too.

One feature I particularly like is taking an edited loop—with its timing offset and chosen boundaries—and dragging that version straight back into Live. There are separate Pre-FX and Post-FX export options.

Current requirements: Windows, Ableton Live 12 Suite with Max for Live, and a MIDI Fighter Twister with compatible Native beta firmware. The setup is based on Midi Fighter Utility 3.0b. FFmpeg is installed separately through the link provided in the installer.

The installation starts completely empty: no bundled music, samples or external VSTs.

A personal note before you try it:

I’m not a programmer. This project came together through days of testing, trial and error, and long—sometimes quite painstaking—discussions with ChatGPT/Codex.

I hope it works on other computers, but I can only speak for my own setup. I can’t guarantee compatibility, reliability or a trouble-free installation elsewhere.

Please don’t send me technical support requests. I simply don’t have the programming knowledge or capacity to troubleshoot other people’s systems. This is a personal project I’m sharing, rather than a supported product.

You’re welcome to experiment with it, modify it and develop it further in whatever direction interests you. Ideas, improvements and shared experiences are welcome—just please approach it as a project to explore and build on.

I will upload the files as soon as possible.
