VCI-100 FW 1.2 jogwheel question
Hello,
Just got my VCI-100 and started playing around with it a little bit. Right now just with Traktor LE but I also tested this with the Traktor PRO demo. After playing around with it a little bit I noticed something that I think should not happen with firmware 1.2.
If I spin the jogwheel in vinyl mode and let go of it traktor continues to “scratch” back or forward. I was under the impression that with the new firmware scratching stops as soon as you let go of the jogwheel. For testing purposes I had a look with MIDI-Monitor.
Touching the jogwheel of Deck A I get:
B6 On
B6 Off
C2 On
A#1 On
A#1 Off
C2 Off
Looking at the mapping in Traktor PRO I saw that “Scratch” for Deck A was set to A#1 . So for me scratch mode should be enabled when I touch the jogwheel and immediately stop if I let go of it.
Am I misunderstanding something here?
Kind regards and thank you for this very informative site,
Mike
My 1.2 check:
- Green Sticker near the serial Number
- Pressing both “vinyl mode” buttons at the same time turn off the jogwheels.
- Switching back to the “old” mode did not give me A#1 events
The last signal gets sent, I believe, when the jog wheel stops moving.
Yes exactly. But I do not understand why the release of A#1 is not stopping scratch mode and returning to normal play. I see the release of A#1 in between the messages from the turning jogwheel so it is not lost. Traktor is setup as well to check for A#1.
Is this expected/standard behaviour?
Once again:
A#1 On <— scratch mode enabled A#1 is pressed
A#1 Off <— Releasing jogwheel so we see this now. In my opinion “normal” play should start but does not
C2 Off <— Jogwheel stopped
Answering myself here, since I was thinking about this during my lunch break.
First of all, apparently this IS the correct behaviour.
If I touch the jogwheel scratch mode gets enabled, well that is obvious.
So let’s say I spin it forward and let go of it. Traktor receives the note off signal and play starts again.
Since my wheel is still turning the track is now playing faster as normal, as soon as the jogwheel stops I reach normal play speed of the track → no ramp up.
Compare this to getting the note off command AFTER the wheel has stopped spinning (old behaviour FW < 1.2).
- I spin forward
- Let go of the jogwheel
- The track plays since the jog is moving
- The jog stops THEN play starts and that’s why I get the ramp-up
If you have not figured this out by now, I never did real mixing or DJing before so please don’t flame me to a crisp for stating something obvious.
Kind regards,
Mike
Oh lord, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone get flamed on this forum. I think someone came REALLY close, and I’ve gotten a little testy with “Read the manual and do some research” things… you’re in the clear.
good luck to ya. Don’t hesitate to bring questions
