Vegas, tips and tricks please? :)

Vegas, tips and tricks please?

Hitting Vegas in November, traveling from Ireland, been there before for a few days, but was with my family so couldn’t really party that much!

Is there any actual techno scene in Vegas? I know some of the bigger clubs in the hotels book the likes of Aoki, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and the likes, but i’d like to check out some smaller clubs, with dance music running for the duration.

Went to see Steve Aoki @ Blush last year while i was there, and for the 4 hours before steve came on, the music wasn’t really to my liking, it was lounge music…

Also, anyone know any promoters in the area i could get in touch with?

Deadmau5… Techno

Yes. I was asking was there a techno scene, as in my experience the bigger clubs only book the big names, in progressive house, electro house, pop genre’s!

Ahh, now I get ya

Sunscreen.

I’d like some info on the smaller gritty clubs, with local guys playing.

Let’s face it, some of the smaller guys are better than the big dudes!

In November? Seriously?

It’s possible, you’re going to the desert after all. It will probably be warm during the day and cold at night. I don’t think small local clubs really exist in Vegas and if they do you’d probably want to avoid them. If you stray off the strip you’re in pimps, ho’s, and hobo’s land then nothing but suburbs for miles. But maybe someone who goes to college out there will chime in with some tips.

Yeah I’ve been told not to stray too far from the strip.

Might have to make do with some of the bigger clubs I guess.

You guys have Vegas all wrong - the strip is what you should avoid. Pick up a copy of City Life and see what’s happening at the local clubs. If you plan to stay on the strip, expect a lot of over commercialized tourist nonsense. There are some good clubs on the strip too but expect to spend a lot of money to get in any place you’ve heard of the DJs.

not sure if halo has his weekend residency there still…world class DJ…

u gotta go here :stuck_out_tongue:

How did you get on in Vegas chief

The wife and i are off to Las Vegas in April for our honymoon. So Im looking for any suggestions on good clubs.

Musically im a house/techno kinda guy. Are there any clubs in Vegas that are in a Fabric, Watergate, DC10 kind of vein. Basically good underground house and techno.

I hear its pretty expensive for beer and such on the strip so off strip isnt an issue. Big names arent important just the music.

Also im not a bit fan of places that have restrictive door policys so that only the beautiful get in

Underground? Not really the thing in vegas, on or off strip. And restrictive door policies are de rigueur at the big clubs on the strip. Grab a copy of City Life when you get to town, it will tell you what’s happening that week (kind of like a Time Out or whatever) because once in a while you get lucky at some of the local clubs. You can find the club listings here http://www.lasvegascitylife.com/calendar/nightclubs/ but of course it’s not up to date so potentially useless; you can find the paper version at grocery stores and the like off the strip but rarely on the strip anywhere. But look through what’s there online and you’ll get a feel for what clubs have interesting stuff happening; though beware of labels. “House” means pop electro and top forty. “Funk” means top forty hip hop. “Dance” means top forty. “Trance” means Tall Paul Oakenmau5 von Sashweed is spinning. Don’t get me wrong, there are some fun DJs there (check out Soxxi), but there’s an overwhelming pressure to stick to hits people know at most places. I’ve heard good stuff at Aruba, Vanguard, and Beauty Bar.

I recommend downtown Vegas for off-the-strip fun. The casinos and drinks are much cheaper, and they have the old-vegas feel which I think is cooler (though often cheesier) than the strip. And if you walk around just past the casinos, there’s a couple cool new loungy places, a video game bar called Console or something of that sort that has good DJs spinning hip hop and mashups if you’re into that sort of thing, a cool coffee shop/record store called the Beat, and a piano bar called don’t tell mama with bartenders who sing for tips (and a couple of them are astoundingly good - but again, they sing hits).

If you’ve never been to Vegas before, be prepared to be overwhelmed and overstimulated (and possibly appalled), particularly if you’re staying on the strip. If you can stay downtown it’s a LOT cheaper, though it shows. (Four Queens and Gold Spike are fine hotels though be sure to be firm about requesting a no smoking room or your room will stink of cigarettes). But if you’re on your honeymoon the extra bucks for a nice suite on the strip are probably worth it. Are you renting a car? If you’re going on and off the strip you will want one. If you’re just staying on the strip (or on Fremont St downtown) you won’t really need it, cabs short distances are easier to deal with. But it will get costly if you’re going back and forth so plan ahead. The other benefit of having a car is you can get away to some of the gorgeous natural beauty in Vegas - Red Rock Canyon, Mt. Charleston - or just go to see the Hoover Dam, which is also kind of cool. And other off-strip things you might want to check out are the Erotic Heritage Museum and the Atomic Testing Museum (well, the latter only if you’re a nerd like me). You can also shoot fully automatic machine guns at a gun range on Tropicana, and there’s a pinball museum with machines from the 1950s and 1960s that you can play.

Honestly, Vegas is the last place I would consider going for a honeymoon, but that’s probably because I live near it and have been there dozens of times. But if you want a really over the top experience, it can’t be beat. But either way it’s not the best place to go in search of underground dance music.

Really? I live here in Las Vegas, and we locals stay away from the strip! Pimps & Ho’s, 4 realz?

^What he said!

Thats was an ace reply dude and one ill take on board. Im a firm believer that the geeks will inherit the earth so thanks for the tip of the musems. Its our honeymoon part 2 we did relaxing and romantic in Italy. Now we’re doing loaded and over the top

Haha in which case Vegas is definitely the spot

Listen to djproben, he knows his stuff.

Everything on the strip sucks…I mean, its fun to people watch and all, but it sucks for the most part.
