Well, i got a pint of beer thrown over my macbook last night…
two dicks decided to have a fight beside the dj box, i should point out that there is rarely ever in trouble in this club, but anyway…the result was pretty much a full pint being thrown into the dj box…macbook soaked, xone 1d soaked, both cdj’s soaked and mixer soaked…and me soaked
i had a keyboard protector on which helped alot! also the way the laptop was facing helped, but still not good, took a good ten mins to dry up most of it, while still mixing away…
any tips for stripping it down to check the insides? anywhere i should pay attention to?
Ouch! I would have let those drunk pricks pay for some damages even if your Mac, CD players, mixer, and xone 1d were still working. Eventually, their life span will be shorter from now on.
Don’t you just love the smell of stale beer coming from electronics.
I’d be ordering a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and grabbing a big bag of rice in the mean time.
Strip them down and chuck the bits in bags of rice to soak up any remaining liquid.
Then when the IPA arrives, remove the parts from the rice and clean them with the IPA to remove any residues.
If you clean anything with lube on it (faders etc) with IPA, it will need lubing again when you reassemble.
Take pictures as you go if you’re unfamiliar with stipping them down, then you can use the pics for reference as you reassemble.

Next time you spin there, bring a thermos of coffee. Then, if you see them, return the favor.

my reaction was pure shock at the time, the bouncers did their job, albiet a tad late, im sure they got their just desserts. the club didnt really give a fuck tbh…
so far it looks to be in ok shape, really have to thank the silicone keyboard protector for that one!
So glad all my gear is insured (extended warrantied), anything like this happens to me I’m covered for 2 more years from full damage on all my gear except my headphones. As long as its not stolen, ill get it replaced / fixed for free (well not free, cause i paid for the additional coverage).
This is exactly why the $200 more for 3 years or so of protection is worth it imo.
Better buy a jumbo box of rice, and Dry them electronics up pretty good, there could also still be water in the electronics without you knowing, I’d make sure to really give them a good drying.

It should be covered under their insurance, and I’d be tempted to investigate making claim. The very least they should be getting their own light/sound company to look over the CDJ’s / A&H to check for permanent damage and cleanup and go from there.
Stripping down your gear to check if damage has been done by one of the THEIR patrons is not something you should have to do yourself.
Agreed. The very least any business has to have is liability insurance. Saying that, it’s not going to go down well as I’m sure their excess is near, if not the cost of your Macbook. IF you don’t care too much - put a claim in. I would and f&ck em if they don’t like it.
