What Basic Setup Do You Use To Play Out?

My Basic Setup For Playing Out Is Currently:

  • Laptop: MacBook Pro C2D
  • Software: Traktor 3.3
  • Audio Interface: NI Audio8 DJ
  • Headphones: Sony MDR-7506

I Run Traktor In External Mixing Mode Into The Venue’s DJ Mixer.

The Main Thing I’m Missing For A Compact Laptop Setup Is A Crossfader Controller.
I’m Thinking Of Getting A Novation Nocturne for This.

The Duelist

Macbook OS X 10.5.2 (Leopard) 2 GB RAM
Traktor 3.3
External harddrive (right now 1TB)
External soundcard Miglia HarmonyAudio
External mixer Ecler Sclat200vs5
Midi-controller Faderfox DX2 (soon to be replaced by a VCI-100 EG edition  )

Very normal PC… 512MB RAM  (but works well with traktor 3.3 on winXP )
vestax VCI-100
M-Audio oxygen 8
Native Instruments Audio 8 DJ

for going out i take my Toshiba Satellite u205-s5067 / T7200 Core 2 Duo / 2gb / 160gb

NI Audio 8 DJ interface + MDR-7506 headphones
VCI-100 + Monome + Kaossilator + Mini-KP
NI Traktor 3.3 or djDecks 0.87 + MLR

I spin live on

Laptop
External HD (250 gigs)
Audio8DJ interface
Vestax VCI-100

dell xps M1710
vci -100
traktor 3.3
motu ultralite

As I see in the forum there are many Audio 8 DJ. !!

  • Macbook Pro

  • Novation Remote 25 SL

  • Grado SR80 Headphones - need to be replaced - nice sound, but bass is 2 mushy to properly DJ with.

Getting my new soundcard next week  and some studio monitors! woot.

What you see is a VCI-100
Dell Inspiron 17" 2.5ghz 45nm core 4gig ram
Yamaha PSR-730 Keyboard
Ableton Live 7 loaded up on the screen
Samson C01U condenser mic - Nah i dont sing but its fun to vocode n stuff :stuck_out_tongue:
Theres a external HDD bay in the pic too, but my 2x250gb drives handle the audio i need to carry around.

my minimum setup is my MacBook and my BCD 3000. but from now on I’ll be taking my Korg ESX-1 and possibly my Korg R3 along.

macbook 13"
customized vci-100
or
Novation 25SL
and the RME fireface 400.
for those that may have missed it here is a video that breaks down my club setup.

I am running

Dell Inspiron: 2 gigs 80 gig hd
Ableton live 6
M-audio X session Pro

about to add traktor

Pretty basic… Dell XPS M140, Ableton Live and a legacy X-Session doing 3 deck drum and bass..

Macbook Pro 17" (2gb ram, 2.4ghz duo core)
VCI-100 (japanese black version)
Traktor 3.2
M-Audio Firewire 410
Stanton Uberstand (I used the uberstand at a gig in Nagoya and it worked awesome! a great space saver and very sturdy)

2 Years In the Making…

Tablet Kiosk EO Ultra-Mobile PC, 1GHz Intel Celeron M, 1GB Ram, Windows XP SP2, SimpleTech 1TB External HD, Audio 8 DJ Soundcard, Traktor Scratch Vinyl, 2 modified XP10 Digital DJ Controllers (vinyl-touch CD scratch / jog wheels), Faderfox DJ2 Midi Mixer, Traktor 3.3… all contained with in a custom flight case smaller then a record crate!!!

BTW… I’ve got probably the fastest setup possible? All I have to do is plug in my rca cables and one power cord and I’m done. Plus, my setup runs on batteries so it literally takes me a minute to set up. Truly plug and play! Sometimes I play on the road in my car… then pull the gear out and hook it up in the club… I love it!

Reply to djdab: Gaaadaaam!!! That is one sweet mobile rig !!!

Jesus Djdab you are doing it big. That is one sweet portable set up any videos of you in action on them.

djdab that is some sick shizzzzzzz man!

im glad to see some eks xp10s doin the rounds, how are they going???
Im pretty happy with mine, just gotta get a nice dj mixer then im set.

How can you dj with open headphones like that? the sound would drown everything out coming through the phones.

To contribute:
13" macbook 2.0 ghz with 2gbs ram.
BCD3000 (next move is probably a trigger finger and then eventually a better sound card. But the BCD is actually great. It does almost everything I need to do)
Headphones at home are Beyerdynamic DT880s, Grado HF-1s, Grado SR-60s, or Westone UM1s (depending on how I feel )
Headphones playing out are AKG K518DJs (which kind of suck for playing out. I need to get Senn 25s. The AKGs become all bass and treble when they are loud. The midrange just goes away.)

Dell Inspiron Laptop (about 4 years old)
WD 120gb Passport External HD
Traktor Scratch
2 CDJ 1000 MK3
DJM 800
Audio 8
Technics RP-DH1200
Stanton Uberstand
USB LED Flexlight
Sure SM58 Microphone
Mackie SRM450s
Multiple cables
Roady Ready Flight Case
Some Other Flight Case That Turns Into A Stand
