I don’t have any stands for my gear, and i’m looking at purchasing some, because it just looks bad and is annoying having to bend over like the hunchback of notre dame to mix using my midi controller (see photo)
so i was wondering how you all have your midi controllers and laptops setup to be ergonomically friendly? And also which stands do you use?
and already feel it was the best purchase for my needs. people say it isn’t that mobile, but it breaks down into 2 large plates, 1 center cylindrical stand, and 1 serato plate.
the kicker - the website had some database / pricing problem and they were selling it for $79.99 for the last couple of weeks. glad to see i got it just in time.
definitely worth the price, the thing is rock solid.
I put the computer at least on a milk crate or something similar. Even a cardboard box. I always have a hanging, like a batik, with me to drape over the box. It’s a little thing but makes the DJ table look much better!
harden up. bad backs are par for the course. that being said i am looking forward to my crane stand turning up. last couple of parties it would have been handy.
I’m kicking myself for not picking up a Crane stand when I was at DJ TechTools… Currently I use a Rain M-stand from the apple store, sturdy as hell but not very portable.
Next time I get anything from the store, I’ll get the Crane for the lappy and then put the VCI on the Rain. For house parties it will be the business and elevate my equipment from the beer floods (been lucky so far).
I really like the look of the Uberstand, but every time I think about getting one I’m irked by how rickety it feels. Just picturing my lappy swaying in the breeze freaks me out.
Phil.
P.S. Excellent shot of you rockin’ the Spin. It’s for situations like that one that I picked one up. Really pleased so far. Does your lappy get hot in that hard case?
that does look pretty good, but it looks like it relies on something to weigh it down on the bottom. Am I incorrect? If so, my midi controller probably wouldn’t be heavy enough to keep it from wobbling.
In reality this is probably the easiest way to solve my issue, but I’m mainly looking at stands, because that way I can fold and unfold them to fit in my knapsack or bag. I wouldn’t want to lose the portability of carrying everything in a knapsack by purchasing a flight case.
I’ve really been interested in the Uberstand, I’ve read up about it on musician’s friend, and it looks quite decent. How stable would you say it is? It looks like it would be prone to wobbling and tipping.
The Oddessy L stand is probably the most affordable stand i’ve seen out there, but I was under the impression it could not be folded. Is this true, or can it be folded?
LOL, well yea usually I’d use a knapsack or book or whatever I can find to raise my laptop, but I’m looking for a more permanent/ portable solution. But thanks
I saw the crane stand from djtechtools, and I must say it looks really great, unfortunately the price tag is a little high IMO, especially since Ideally I would like to have two stands (one for the laptop, and the other for the midi controller).
Yea my spin has really done me well, I must say. I’ve used it quite a bit since March, and nothing knock on wood has seemed to become loose, or worn, which is surprising considering the whole thing is made of pretty light plastic.
My laptop doesn’t get very hot within the case. I purchased my case from Speck, and it’s been great, I have it on my laptop pretty much all the time. Not to mention it helps set your Macbook pro apart from every other DJ’s Macbook Pro by adding some colour.
the stand is heavy duty and very weighty. the base is also quite a bit larger than the laptop stand, so it feels very secure.
it also isn’t held up with zip ties, whichever stand that was.
the only downside i’ve read, and isn’t very relevant to me at the current, is the portability. it fits into my 17" laptop bag, but i think i would still get something else for it, since i can use my laptop bag for my mbp and apc40. i guess some people would get fed up putting it together and breaking it down night after night, but i’d be willing considering how solid it feels.
