what do youo use to protect your ears when on stage ?
Hi again ,
During a set, of course,we all have a strong and solid headphones (i bought mine following the strong advices of the main website djtechtools).
But when it s finished and you have to go here and there on stage because of the monitoring for example or you simply have to stay on stage for various reasons, your ears are very much exposed and I try to find something simple and light to protect my ears.
So far, I found a company in France (where I come from) which can produce some earplug but they can not be attached (otherwise you lose the warranty) with a small wire or something similar and they are very very expensive (about $400 for a pair of earplug)
On the other side, the guy told me you can put them and manage the prim filter so you can wear them during your set (and then you set your plugs at 0% filter) and when you finish, you set the filter at 50% for example to avoid to damage your little ears.
Anyway, that was just an example so if you guys have some good tips, please don 't hesitate.
Those look good but does that plastic bit on the end stick out a lot? Is it removable or something? It looks like it would touch headphones while wearing them.
@photojojo : which ones ? 'coz @$1799 , well…a little bit far far away from my budget @R-Presley : please ur input @bradcee (have you noticed my improvement) : do you mean you can use those regular earplugs on stage without issues or surely without losing them ?
i mean as they’re ‘disposable’ and we get through a shit load at work no one notices if i grab a few more than what i need for any agency on my line. just the normal in ear things with a cord (and metal detectable, but that’s not important).
no problem fitting them under headphones as i used wear them exclusively at work with an ear-piece for my radio over the top. but when i got my new hard hat it had the ear muff style already attached, don’t like them though.
@photojojo : well, if you can try and let me know..I don t want some earplugs with whom I hear anything. I just want something that reduce the soundlevel I m exposed when I organise gigs

I suggest a pair of these. You can find them in uk stores and are very cheap for how well they protect your ears.
They keep the clarity of the music as well as cutting the volume level down by about 20 decibels
[/quote]these are my pick too, they even handled my bloody valentine’s menacing tour last year with ease and it sounded great.
i used to not worry about this, until i started working sound for bars. jesus christ..i didn’t realize how loud some drummers can get. not to mention how loud guitarists like their amps..never again will i do this without earplugs.
