Just wondering what people like to use in there workflow. I mainly use Logic Studio well I try anyways but I would love to know what kind of hardware people have integrated into there workflow. Lately I have been thinking about getting a Magic Trackpad just because my current mouse is old an horrible. I currently just use a Midi Keyboard, I own 2 LPD8’s that I use for DJing but was wondering if anyone uses other midi controllers in there day to day producing.
For producing I use Reason with a Korg microKontrol and a Line6 UX1 as my audio interface.
For DJing I use a Behringer BCD3000 with Traktor Scratch Pro. Audio straight out of BCD3000 and am looking to integrate the Korg into the live setup, as a way of having additional control (twist those knobs… PULL THOSE LEVERS!!! MUAHAHAHAHA)
I used to be all crazy about having keyboards and drumpads and stuff. Im not anymore since I dont feel the need, so the only hardware in use is my USB-mouse and headphones nowdays.
I record ideas for melodies, basslines, drumgrooves (anything really) on my cellphone to remember them when I get home to produce if that counts.
I know it seems like a lot of keys but actually i have more, this is just what i’m using right now. I’ve played piano for 23 years, and i like to be able to jump around quickly. I usually set up the oxygen 8 on my bass track, the Miracle on some pads/melodic stuff, and the Casio on the lead.
ableton live 7 and cubase sx3, korg padkontrol, behringer bcr and bcf, 61 key evolution midi keyboard. krk rokit6’s for monitoring,
3 hardware compressors, 2 focusrite 1 BBE
a graphic eq,
analogue filter, vocooder and mutifx all from electrix
4 synths.
for years i’d stopped using the hardware, was just using ableton but in the last fortnight
i’ve had the urge to fire up the outboard, nothing that software cant achieve, just a slightly different way of working.
I’m also in the process of building a talkbox, just waiting for some capacitors and i’ll finish it up
Live, I use a bunch of controllers, but when writing music I usually find it faster to just draw in midi notes and use the mouse for other tasks. But I use a Trigger Finger when banging out drum/perc parts (it also can work nicely for basslines). And instead of drawing automations - especially the ones that go over several bars - I prefer to tweak a knob instead of drawing in a line. This gives the automation curve a more natural/human/organic sound.
Cubase runs it all, but hardware wise I use…
4 x analogue modular synths
nord modular
korg legacy ms20 controller
korg ms10
korg sq10
roland mc202
korg poly 800
cz1000
jen sx1000
novation basstation
a few samplers.
