I’m looking for some suggestions about my situation here. Let me give you some background. For about a year now, I’ve been working in torrented versions of Ableton Live, some VST’s, and samples. I wanna start from scratch, and buy everything, so i can begin to do things commercially. I have a midi keyboard, and honestly, that’s all i want, so i’m set for hardware. I’m a student, so i qualify for educational discounts for LIVE. I’ve also considered switching to logic, since it is a little bit cheaper, and has some better built in instruments. My budget is about $400, maybe a bit more. So my question is, which one of these scenarios is best, or is there a better way to go than i already lay out…
1: Buy ableton Suite, that’s all.
2: Buy Live (not suite version) and then get one or two synths, like maybe Synplant, and ANA by sonic academy.
3: Switch to Logic, and get Sylenth1. (If so, could someone suggest Logic tutorials, willing to pay, preferably for beginners, since i’ll be new to Logic.
4: Other…
My favorite artists are those such as Avicii, Laidback Luke, or Hardwell, and i like to produce styles such as those. A good example of something for me is the Jaywalker remix of “Wild one Two.”

Just get Ableton Suite. They have that soundcloud promotion right now, so that’s a fringe benefit! Between Operator and Analog, you’ll have plenty to learn and work with in terms of synths, at least for a while. Between Ableton and Pro Tools I haven’t found a lot of room for Logic - there isn’t much in it that Live lacks.
I am not at all convinced that Logic has better built in instruments.
Please clean up your computer - keep only legit software.
If you get ableton suite you’re paying for stuff you will never ever use. That is a fact. I’m not saying “don’t get it”

I’ve used suite. I really dread the sound of operator at this point. What I’ve come up with is, I have a membership to Lynda, so i’ll switch to Logic, and get Sylenth1, then i can use those tutorials. That;s the best way for the budget that I’m on. Plus, if i still have questions about logic, i’m down with flat out paying a logic user to answer a few question, when they come up. Ableton live’s instruments are mostly not usable for me, Analog and Operator maybe, but programming wise, they don’t have the sound, or capabilities, like Massive, Sylenth1, or any of the Rob Papen synths.
Just to let you all know, i am not a beginner. I would be new to logic if i switched, but i program all my own synths, and have a significant understanding of production, and it’s technology…
I didn’t mean it so much as the DAW, but as, if i get logic, i can get sylenth1, a go to synth for swedish house, or trance, where as if i get ableton suite, i don’t have the money to buy a high powered synth like that.
Exactly lol sylenth1 is a go to synth, whether it’s for 1 style or a billion, it’s a go to synth, and for the style i want, it’s a go to synth. Point established. Do you have a better one in mind for prog. house and trance?
Also, i don’t have a soundcloud. I revisit most everything, daily, and only share it with friends, and shit.
Yeah, i’ve used massive, and i love it for supersaws, but it felt like a hassle to make big, house leads on it. I believe native instruments even says that it is BEST for gritty leads and strong basses. What style do you make?
First off, nice stuff man. And second off, i have used both, massive a torrent version, and sylenth1 the demo, and right off the bat, sylenth1 made me feel more at home, where as with massive, i felt like i couldn’t manipulate it as well as i’d have liked. Maybe it’s just preference for me, but massive seems like it’s a bit more bass, and grit oriented. Not that that couldn’t be changed by skillful programming, but for me, it’s not worth the hassle…
Massive has a bit of a learning curve because you have to learn how to route all the envelopes and LFOs, it’s really different compared to most soft synths out there, plus it’s FM and that alone is a learning curve in itself.
But with that being said, it truly is the swiss army knife of all synths out there I’d say.
I have Sylenth as well, and feel comfortable with it but always feel like it’s holding me back compared to something like Massive or even RP Predator.
I’m feeling like i’m going to go with sylenth1, just because of how at home i feel with it. What about the synth Dune, as a second. A lot of people call it a “software nord.” Would that be accurate?
