I seriously do not understand why he gets so much hate. His production is so fkn tight and he’s living the life. Only slight problem I can see anyone may think is he doesn’t do much life, but in my opinion he doesn’t need to if his songs are already bangin. He’s made dubstep mainstream and it seems to me all the haters are underground kids who take pride in saying “I listened to dubstep before it was cool”.
Would love to see everyone’s opinion and quote me out if you agree/disagree with anything but say why
This question came up cause I’m doing a musicology report for Year 12 HSC and I chose Skrillex …found alot of mixed opinions on the internet haha
Cheers
NO. We are not going there. Can open worms everywhere.
Just like the kid that cannot be trusted not to piss on you next to you in the school toilet, this forum cannot have a discussion on Skrillex without everyone pissing everywhere.
We have had 10s of threads on this exact subject so…
Anyone wishing to help the OP with his studies can PM some relevant thoughts.
The guy is collaborating with so many people, has been nominated for a grammy, and has my 4 year old singing “cinema”. He has some skill, and a following, despite what people may say, the dude has risen up fast! My hat is off to him, yes there is better dubstep out there, but there is also worse. I like the guys music, no drama here
End of the day, taste music is a personal thing. For example, my girlfriend loves to listen to 90’s girly pop. Is her taste bad, or wrong? Does it defile the genre of pop?
I think no, as everyone simply wants to listen to whatever makes them happy. In this regard, I give Sonny credit for taking a genre and exposing millions of people to it, giving them the pleasure of listening to his music.
That said, I dont like dupstep (or Skrillex’s music, though some of it is catchy) however kudos to him for making it. I heard once that he tries to bring the atmosphere of a metal concert to EDM, and I certainly think that he’s succeed in doing so.
Just dont ask me to play it
(and FaunKeH - I wish I’d thought of this, getting a forum to write my HSC for me! Points to you bro!)
who cares what ones opinion of skrillex is, each to there own, This will only turn in to a slanging match, Each to there own. Different folks, different stroke. Haters gona hate, hippies gona love. there are hundreds of one liners that could be used.
I don’t like his music. For the most part, I find his productions unsubtle, unintelligent, overly aggressive, noisy and tedious; good for teenage moshers with too many hormones whizzing about. Beyond this, I don’t feel any particular antipathy toward Skrillex (as part of the commercial establishment there’s a lot worse out there).
exactly. if people are going to have taste in music though, id just love to know why theyre more interested in certain types. ‘whatever makes them happy’ being a perfectly good reason
haha thats the only reason i wrote this thread >: D nah i just want to make sure i know what im talking about with my friends before i say any baised shit
Fair enough, Ok so towards the end of last year/early this year I was enjoying some of his toons, have a few in my collection, and was using a few in mixes I was jamming. enjoyed showing a few mates his music and they all liked him.
he played over her (Australia) earlier this year about may from memory on a tour with Deadmau5. Was looking forward to seeing what he bought to the table live.
Well I would have to say that I personally didn’t enjoy myself during his set. Reason being is that I am a fan of a broad style of music and love to let loose and dance the day/night away. I just couldn’t get into that particular style of his live so left halfway through his set.
Would I go see him again - NO
Do I like his sound - some of it yes
Do I like him - I have never met him so reserve comment.
thats about all I got other than I wish him all the best as he is doing well for himself so good for him.
I don’t like his music. I don’t care about his work, life or anything.
I hope all the people that has got in to EDM because of the new dubstep wave remains and start listening to other genres. Its nice to have a new influx of people in to the scene.
Also, I dont like the whole trend of “live acts” boring as hell.
Shit, if I had to write about artist and music I was interested in, I would have graduated along time ago(still never did)(GO TO SCHOOL!), and would have never ditched.
Personally I don’t like him, nor his music. I don’t follow him and therefore can not offer an objective contribution to this debate. I wish him well at the Grammys’.
